Getting to Monza

Hi, a bit of help please from anyone familar with getting to Monza. I am going to be quite near to Milan (Lake Garda) on the 8th/9th of September and according to the Monza website I can still get tickets to the GP. So I was wondering if anyone had any advice on getting from the centre of Milan out to the circuit and what it is like getting back out again afterwards. I am thinking of taking the Mrs and the little one along if it is fairly easy otherwise I'll go alone. Any tips, Hints or thoughts welcome.

There's a free shuttle train from Milan to Monza, or there was two years ago. I assume it goes back after the race, too, although I somehow couldn't find the station and ended up getting a taxi.

Hi, I did the same trip the 1st time Schumacher won there in a Ferrari. We were staying near San Felice Del Bonaco (left side of the lake). I ended up driving, Monza is easy to find off the Autostrada. Got there for about 8am and little traffic, bought the ticket on the gate for about £40. Getting out is the usual scrum so plan on a picnic in the car park and you will be out of there with no traffic by 6pm ish. Monza is a large park with loads of grass and trees so its a pleasant place to watch the traffic chaos from

Note that Monza isnt fantastic for spectators unless you have a grandstand seat though. The spectator areas are generally flat and level with the track so once the perimeter is 1 person deep its difficult to see. The one exception is the inside of the back straight which has concrete steps but the locals camp on them to reserve a spot but if you get there for 8am then I imagine you will be able to find a bit to perch on but someone will have to be there all the time to guard it.

Thanks for the replies, especialy VOD, appreciate the info. I think I'm going to have to make this one work. Gave up going to the British GP because of the cost but this is looking like a great chance to visit one of the classic tracks, before Bernie dumps them and goes for the new money!!!!

I was there last year and stayed at a couple of places on Lake Como (Fancy a romantic few days at the Italian Lakes dear? Oh by the way, guess what happens to be on that weekend...). If you have a car I wouldn't go anywhere near Milan. Monza is easy to get to and we drove up and down each day. They turn huge lengths of street about 2 miles away from the Autodrome into a car park and then shuttlebus you in. It was very efficient. You have to go, it was brilliant. Followed by a few days exploring Stelvio etc. Fantastico!

I'm going and will be driving from Bergamo. I plan on using the park and ride arrangement at €13. The only bit that worries me is I have to find the media centre to collect the tickets. It looks like a real rabbit warren on the map I've been sent.
