Just a little reminder for those that like their racing.

Have yet to track down TV coverage times in the UK. Motors TV covered it live in full last year but they aren't this year, but will be showing the recorded race later on Sunday. Although many people hav ebeen contacting Motors TV to change their minds.

I remember seeing tv coverage of it way back in the mid-eighties.
In-car cameras that rotated to follow the action, and commentators talking to the drivers while they were racing. Fantastic.
Great circuit, too - long straights and a twisty 'mountain' section with little or no run-off areas.

Bathurst 1000, what a fantastic race.
I was lucky enough to go when I was traveling in OZ in 2001, it is everything people say it is and more puts all racing here to shame!
The track is amazing (it is a steep as it looks on TV) and when I was there it really did rain at the top of the mountain/hill and not at the bottom - very strange and has to be seen to be believed.
The top is crazy with 'teams' of supporters (either Ford or Holden never both!) with tent city's and spectator 'areas'
Maddest part comes at the end of racing as loads of people bring old sofas to sit on during the weekend however, they can't be bothered to take them home again so, they set light to them! What a sight that was!!
Yes if you get a chance, go - great time, easy to get to, well organised and above all great fun and great racing

Am I right in remembering that someone died there last year?
Yes unfortunately - Mark Porter was killed in one of the support races (tier 2 V8) - spun on the top part of the circuit and took a side impact at ~200 km/h from another car which tried to avoid him but had nowhere to go.Edited by GravelBen on Wednesday 3rd October 01:07

In the UK guys it should be covered by whichever network airs the V8 Supercar series as The 1000 is part of that. Give Autosport a call or their publisher (Haymarket) - they used to publish the motor sport TV guide in the back of the mag each week - I think its BskyB or Sky whatever over there.
BOYCIEBOY - its a lot steeper than what you see on TV - Ive ridden it on a Rickman framed Yoshimura 860 Honda 4 (a long while back) - but over the mountain you then hold your breath over Skyline and through The Dipper - those blokes have balls!
Anyway - weather forecast is for hot and dry so should be some very fast times - who'll win - its a lottery - but Ford will be fine with me

If anyone hasnt TV coverage I believe you can get it through this link:
http://v8supercar.bigpond.com/live_race_engine/cho...
which is from the www.V8supercars.com website - I have no idea what it costs and its obviously broadband.
First day of practice (today Thursday) - Steven Johnson in the DJR Ford is quickest.

Can't quite believe this, but they are doing "routine maintenance" and the site is down for the day!

They have imposed a limit that only one case of beer per spectator can be taken to Bathurst this year. There will be uproar!
You think England is a nanny state?
Oz makes England look like feeding time at the zoo in comparison.
