Well Stepneygate is on the BBC. There is now suspicion that Ferrarsi have gained information from McLaren. Surely it now means that the precedent set by the FIA requires Ferrarsi to be fined $100m and thrown out of the championship.

Stepney told grandprix.com in, according to them, an unsolicited communication about this a couple of days ago and now he's gone to the BBC. One assumes this is to ensure that it is not covered up. He may or may not be doing this for spite and bitterness but he has shown a copy of the correspondence with Mosely to the BBC. Thank goodness it wasn't via email or else Mosley would have got it just too late to do anything about it. That's if he used Ferrari laptops. And what's the betting he does?
I don't think there is any doubt that the information went two ways between Stepney and Coughlan - both are, it seems, without acceptable morals - but now he's said that he spoke about this to 'others' in the Ferrari team. Whether he did so or not, he was still employed by Ferrari at the time so, one would assume, they are as culpable as McLaren. Phew, nice to have all that doubt removed.
So, it seems, if Lewis Hamilton wins the driver's championship BMW will feel it is their victory.
I like the way Ferrari doubt the word of their own employee but accept the veracity of what PDLR and FA say. Still, don't we all believe McLaren over Ferrari?

This is an interetsing angle, which shows just how daft the whole scenario really is.
One thing is for sure its a shame Lewis Hamilton spent all those years aiming to get to the pinnacle of motorsport only to discover it isn't a sport at all.
F1 credibility ranks about as high as something I've trodden on.
When are the TV companies the newspapers and even the fans going to stop following this stupid circus of egos and start watching/transmitting real racing like the GT's and tintops.
Following F1 now is like being party to bloody office politics.
They'll be docking points for who ate all the Jaffas next or shagged the bosses PA.
F1 credibility ranks about as high as something I've trodden on.
When are the TV companies the newspapers and even the fans going to stop following this stupid circus of egos and start watching/transmitting real racing like the GT's and tintops.

I don't think this tooing and froing of information is anything beyond acceptable to be honest.
However in this case I think it would be fair to say that by giving out a dossier Stepney was a fool. He was quite rightly sacked by Ferrari.
But to penalise McLaren was just wrong.
Stepney and by definition Ferrari were the ones who leaked the information.

Engineers will always try to find something new out.
F1 is not the exact science it should be despite all the highly qualified staff and wind tunnels etc etc because there is one variable that changes time and time again and which noone has control over and that is the grip on the track.
I kart but do I set my kart up all on my lonesome or do I go round the paddock with my tape measure taking measurements of axle widths and front spacers and checking with other teams as politely as I can and glean what information I can if offered on tyre pressures seat heights torsion bar settings and chassis stiffness.
In motorsport from the bottom to the top there is allways the feeling that your competitors have an edge somehow which is why Stepney et al will continue to seek information off each other.
It sounds like Stepney gave information away but he was getting information back.
If Stepney was clever he would have been getting back higher quality information than he was giving away thus to the overall benefit of Ferrari. He may even have been giving out misinformation.
Either way I think Max envoking one of his all encompassing clauses regarding the sporting code which if you read it in full actually gives the FIA carte blanche to make its own decisions is just a joke.
For a lawyer either Max has created a brilliant document in the sporting regs or the sloppiest contract a lawyer has ever penned.

To be honest, after 30+ years of watching and following F1, this season has really started to make me think why the FECK do I watch it. Over the years and since ITV started to broadcast I have recorded the races. prior to that i would watch live no matter what was going on around me! Now I just fast forward and can turn a race into a 20min sprint. If the whole F1 circus (no pun intended as this is what F1 is right now) carries on like this into next year then I shall be swtiching off, cancelling my subscription to Autosport and looking for something more enjoyable - dare I say it I might even look at some 2 wheel racing F1 credibility ranks about as high as something I've trodden on.

That was at the first hearing, where there was no punishment - at the second, they decided there was enough suspicion that it had been assessed by various people within the team (the gas in the tyres, etc), if not actually used on the car.Anyway, that's been done to death on other threads, and I only really meant it as a light-hearted comment, so probably best left alone.

Sadly this crap has allways been around you may remember Hunt being disqualified at Silverstone because his car was half an inch too wide..oh and what was his lead contender driving..erm a Ferrari.

I but the mag for all the motorsport it covers even the national racing it covers so I am grateful its around.
What I would like to see though is Autosport totally blanking F1 and not even putting one race article in about F1 after an event . . that would make Mad Max think.

Me, I reckon Ferrari is into organised gambling, running of the unions, the bribing of judges, protection rackets in the entertainment industry, horse beheading and the import and export of olive oil.[edited to add] NOTE: this is a joke. I do not think that Ferrari have, at any time, influenced judges in any legal or quasi-legal judgements.

Doubt Mad Max would give a shit - Autosport is a minority magazine sold mainly the britsh motorsport fans, which is an almost insignificant amount of readers compared to the TV revenues, newspaper articles etc.Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
