Just read that the Prodrive/McLaren deal seems to be off and that Prodrive may be looking at using Renaults instead. I have huge respect for Dave Richards but I just do not understand why Prodrive would want to spend vast sums of money running second hand Renaults which after all have not been that impressive this year.

Ron Dennis has been reported as supporting the Prodrive choice of using McLaren customer chassis, but is waiting for Prodrive to get the decision about whether customer chassis are allowed. It sounded like a done deal on both sides, but waiting for the FIA to make its mind up.

Whitmarsh has told the staff that it's off. Da Do Ron Ron also made comments that they couldn't complete any deal until the Court of Appeal had ruled in the customer car issue - as raised by Williams.
It seems that the whole thing may turn to poo as there is still no Concorde Agreement for 2008, and they may have to roll the existing one over - which precludes the use of customer cars.
Subject to the court of appeal ruling in Prodrive's favour, they still have other teams to talk to, as well as McLaren about reviving their bid.
They could always buy an old Arrows chassis and stick a Honda engine in it....
Even prodrive i dont think have the structure in place as yet to produce there own tub and car. Hence the customer car for a base setup and then build on from that!
They should have got newey involved about 2 years ago when they 1st found out they were in!

Ive been wondering how prodrive are going to manage running a team at all next year, its a monumental challange. If they do manage to get the mclaren then it wont be until the end of the year and then they have to have the knowledge, the staff, 2 drivers , test drivers, lodgistics, parts, etc. etc. etc. etc. all in place and running like clockwork come march 16. Then comes the hard part of being competative.And now it seems all their plans of running a customer car are now illigal? WTF, how can the the F1 management overlook something like this, its a complete joke.
I really do like prodrive and i like dave richards but the poor man needs all the help he can get.
