Just seen this statement from the FIA:
‘In the light of McLaren's public apology and undertakings, the FIA President has asked the members of the World Motor Sport Council for their consent to cancel the hearing scheduled for 14 February 2008 and, in the interests of the sport, to consider this matter closed.'

Sadly this is not the end. The well of resentment brought about by this year's shenanigans will not subside unless there is a fundamental change in the way that the sport is governed. At the very least this means the removal of it's President and I suspect all conflicts of interest will need to go, too.
With the spectre of peace on the horizon, those with influence willingly took a step back.
