known, no no's as far as brands are concerned?

ie poor quality.

i would of thought you'd be best off using a fomoco original part, if not then any pattern part that describes itself as OEM quality will do. Unless you are desperate for a grp n cerametallic race clutch. From my time in parts I can tell you that most of the so called 'pattern' parts are in fact made on the same production line as those parts destined to be manufacturer branded... so in effect no difference except price.

yeah pretty much what I had thought, but I know there is some realy nasty eastern european, and oriental tat on the market, which I am keen to avoid.

When we changed the clutch a few years ago on my race Xr2 we used a Borg and Beck clutch on recommendation from someone in the know. If i recall it wasn't the cheapest but not as expensive as the Fordie one.

Make sure that you don't get a remanufactured clutch, usualy sold by the local car parts shop.
AP would be No1 choice, but not cheap, Sachs would be good also.
I personally wouldn't fit Quinton Hazel or Borg and Beck.

Many main dealers (esp. Ford & GM) now sell recon units into the aftermarket.

LUK in the UK is 100% new, in mainland Europe they also offer recon. option.
My money would be an LUK
