Just checked up on this, and the result is that launch control is banned as well.

Heidfeld said he also expected the ban on traction control and launch control this year to have a big impact on races.
"I am anxious to see how the starts will look like," he said. "At the moment we are working on that. In the past years we had the launch control or at least some help. That is why the starts were always pretty predictable.
"In the beginning Renault always had fantastic starts and after that we had very good starts. Before the return of the launch control it was easy to gain or loose positions during the start. Therefore the next season will be more interesting again.

Strictly speaking launch control was banned a few years ago, which is why Nicks says "or at least some help", they used to have dedicated launch control but that was banned so they used the best next thing which was a TC setting, the driver still had to modulate the clutch during the start in the last couple of years.
Like all these rule changes, it will soon become a non-issue and business as usual will ensue with other things being talked about at the weekend.

the Launch control system on some cars involve the driver selecting first gear, flooring the throttle and holding a button on the steering wheel. Release of the launch button set the car off. A certain team had sensors in the front wing that detected when the jumpstart sensors in the track powered down and launched the car automatically, the cars in question always made a couple of places on the start and the in car footage from one race showed the drivers thumb coming off the button as he got alongside the car in front. His car wasn't silver and as such it was allowed to have a go at the Red cars stranglehold on F1 and created a spectacle for bernie and max's great advertising swindle.

How do you know that? It was only 2 seasons and then business as normal.LexSport said:
Bloody ingenious though! IMHO that's the sort of thing F1 engineers out to be doing - finding every last way to tweak out an advantage.
It's definitely a clever hack of the starting system, but for me it crosses the line between being in the spirit of the rules and full-on cheating. It's pretty clear that getting off the line before the flag drops (metaphorically speaking ) is an unfair advantage.Anyone got a link to the in-car video of this happening? I assume it was Renault...
