Forsythe racing announce closure-is this the start of many?

Is this Tony George's brave new world? OK they never replaced Player's as a sponsor but to lose one of Champ Cars' key teams is hardly the best start, is it?

I have to confess to wondering how fairly the other teams coming over will be treated?

I don't know enough about the recent state of Forsythe to have an opinion on them, but surely a single, unified series is more viable than two of them drawing talent, sponsor funding and media profile from each other?

While the unification of the two series is unquestionably a good thing in terms of having the best drivers racing together, it's interesting to see just how few top line drivers remain. With the likes of Franchitti, Hornish, Bourdais and Allmendinger all having moved to pastures new, and Tracy now looking to find a new seat, it's just as well they're not spread over 2 different competitions.

This year's entry list looks a bit lacking in depth, there do seem to be quite a few average drivers in the line-up.

You're right Digital, but I think you could argue that the lack of 'top name' drivers is because of the split.

I hope they get it together.

The timing of the merger is barking mad, the CART teams had invested in new cars for this season and had deals in place based on running in CART.

It would have been more viable to sort the deal out now so at the end of the season they amalgamated, a few weeks notice after deals have been set and cars ordered/refurbished is bound to cause financial issues for some of the CART teams.

From what I have read the American racing fan doesn't care about Gerry Forsythe anyway. They are more annoyed at his dumping of Paul Tracy and doing the same thing to AJ Allmendinger after he had won 5 races for them in 2005.

He's just had a hissy fit because he didn't get his way.
