I am sure one is meant to take ones hat off for the national anthems? Will he be receiving any form of punishment?

I don't think there is any such official requirement. I think it's just common practice.

It's just courtesy, but easily forgotten in the excitement. Patrick Head will probably point it out gently, and Nico will hopefully remember it next time.

Drivers often forget - but someone on the podium usually reminds them. I expect they were all so chuffed with their achievements that it slipped their minds to remind Nico.

No big deal - unless he does it repeatedly.
