Rockingham Pics
Discussion
Phil Hindley, Team Principal of the Tech9 Motorsport team gave me the opportunity to document the race preparation, qualifying, and racing at Rockingham this weekend. It was a pretty amazing day in the pit, even though it rained heavily most of the time, the atmosphere was tense as the preparation of the Lamborghini's got underway. Qualifying went very well with 1 & 2 on the grid for the race on Sunday!
Unfortunately all was not to be with the number 9 car retiring due to gearbox problems, and the number 8 car coming in 10th, due to the tough weather conditions and some shenanigans with the safety car. A disappointing result overall, after a lot of hard work by the team.
Many thanks to Phil and the team who are a really good bunch of blokes, especially Damon who sorted me out with a pass, showed me around and introduced me to everyone, I had a fantastic day, enjoy the pics.

Bob,
I am simply speechless, that has got to be one of the best set of pics I have ever seen.
I really seem to struggle with garage/pit shots, don't know why just can't get my head round them and unlike you my compositions always suck.
Tech9 are a great team and Damon is a great guy.
Out of interest what camera and lens combo where the pics shot with ?
Well done once again on a great set.
Regards
Tim

Hi Tim, thanks for the compliments, especially coming from you!
The first few I took in the garage were hopeless, couldn't get the flash to look right at all, regardless of what it bounced off, and it was a silver roof as well! The camera is a Nikon D300, and most were shot with the 18-200mm VR lens, or a 50mm 1.8.
The 50mm prime is excellent in low light, you can get about 1/50th at f/2.2
I was asking every photographer I met if they were on PH, none were, I thought there would be at least a couple, and I even got asked if I was "autofocus"! I thought, "I wish, if only I could get pics as good as Tim's!"
So thanks again, your praise means a lot for an aspiring automotive photographer!

Bob,
Must look at getting some new lenses for the garage/pit work. The 1.8 50mm sounds like a corker.
I have just checked and Sigma have launched a 50mm F1.4 that will fit my Canon 40D
will have to check this one out.
Out of interest who was asking after me, anyone inparticular ??
