I'm looking into going to the Japanese Grand Prix this year. Has anyone been? Are there any recommendations for where to stay / where to sit at the track / how to get to and from the track?

Any info would be appreciated, I did a search but it doesn't seem to have been discussed.

Cheers,

I have been to Suzuka before, stayed in Tokyo. My advise would be either bus or train, stay in
Tokyo. Are you combining the GP with other holiday stuff? Car related stuff like tuners, drifting, etc Tokyo is best as base of operations.

There are pretty good directions:

Thanks for that KJH. We will be combining it with a holiday in Japan - going to see the sights in and around Tokyo and Kyoto.

So is the train and bus OK - not too busy just before/after the race?

suzuka is easy to get to by train but i haven't tried it going to fuji, i don't think the track is served by any train station - you'll have to go to gotemba and get a taxi or bus from there, but it's not all that close to tokyo. i'm staying in gotemba for the race, and there is a shuttle bus from my hotel (kasuga) - you have to be a member of the media or a team to use it but not sure how stricly that's enforced. i expect public buses will go to the track too...

Isn't the race at Suzuka this year? I thought they were alternating it between Fuji and Suzuka from now on?

nope - fuji again this year and then they start to alternate so suzuka next year. (tho i wish it was at suzuka too, far better track and much more fun, plus kyoto is nicer than tokyo imo)
