The last little bits are seeming to take an age.

Each little bit of detail work seems to run into half a day.

Anglesey is looking like a pipe dream at the moment. but she will be out at some stage.

Engine went back in today, and everything is now being mocked up for final fit and wiring before strip and final re-assembly.

The old fella is still a dab hand on the lathe.

Most of it. with help from the old fella on the lathe and Messers read and co on the engine.

Progress does tend to depend on what I can have delivered to the door while the wife is out

This could start a debate??

Despite probably having a lot less power than another class C interloper out there !! and a 40 year old non competitive chassis when compared to any younger TVR, I feel it is only correct to Run in the correct class reflecting the fact I have a 5 ltr engine and 8 Cylinders. I shall therefore run in B with a datalogger in the true spirit of anything else just not being cricket.

My personal opinion is that V8's of any description shouldn't be in C since I feel this really should be kept as an entry level class to reflect realistic budgets and keep everyone happy with honest racing. All that will happen ultimately is expenses will be pushed up and everyone will be forced down the V8 route to be competitive. This then pushes the class away from where it should be, A true entry level class.

While we are on the subject of detail, Don't put yourself down. my car is fluff and Garnish with a bit of polish thrown in. If you build any car on your driveway at home without too much in the way of outside assistance you have already won a race in my book.

Keep cracking on with it see you out there soon.

Neil.

Should be interesting against my 2ltr cosworth tuscan in B when it gets finished or will i have to be bumped up to A as its turbo charged to give me no chance as usual

I would agree if we had more entry level 6 and 4 cylinder cars, but seeing as most entry level TVRs are V8 powered Wedge's Chims and Griff's. These cost from 2-7k. I can't see a problem with standard 3.5 and 4.0 V8's in class C.

I know the rules say class C up to 4.0 but if you car was within the PTW and due to its age I think most people would be ok with it running in class C.

Biggest problem I saw was with class B is the massive jump 175 BHP per ton to 300BHP. also its not just all the extra power you would need from your engine but all the extra strain on Gearbox Diff Brakes etc. this would put it, well out of my budget, and my driving ability (as never raced before). Plus I'd like to stick with technology I know, as I've rebuilt my Road Rv8. but had never worked on a ford v6. and neither myself of my brother are professional mechanic's (I'm in IT and my Bro is a builder) and its just a hobby. this is was the only way for us, unless we paid for a ready built car.

To a certain extent for most of us it does not really matter as we are mainly racing against what and who we know, and to a large degree our self's

looking forward to seeing you car on the track though always nice to have a wide selection of cars. proving TVR have always been capable

Surely if you're running a datalogger anyway and you're within the class limit, wouldn't you be better off in class C. If you haven't got tyhe power for class B you'll get blown away and easily demoralised.

On another subject, are they Dunlop CR65s on the car? I haven't seen those in a long while. Will they be the tyre you'll be racing on? Can you still get them?

I'm sure even though there is a PTW ratio limit there is also a cc limit in class C of 4ltr's this is to stop someone de-tuning a big engine but having a massive amount of torque.

but as said he maybe able to get a concession due to the age of the car.

There is a 4 litre limit for RV8 cars in class C so it looks like class B but you could discuss with John Reid. Your car should be very light and I've seen a few of these going very nicely indeed.

WRT tyres, ideally you'll need a set of slicks and wets. There is a big difference between slicks and list 1B Dunlops and an even bigger difference between the full wets and anything else when there is standing water. In drying conditions though they will overheat in a few laps and the soft compound means they'll wear out in no time on a track that becomes dry. Typically you're looking at £750-850 + VAT per set. I only have 4 wets but a full spare set of slicks. I'd recommend having at least 2 spare slicks should you flat spot a pair of fronts!

Hope you're on the grid soon.

Cliff, thanks for the info on the tyres.

I agree, the 60s V8 TVRs go quite well. I think an FIA 1800 Grantura or well built/driven Vixen would certianly scare some class C cars!

The old V8 cars can produce serious bhp and torque and can be made to handle also. What ever class Neil is in, he'll be racing with the same peolpe, and I'm sure like me and many others (when we get out), he'll be out there mainly for the fun.

I'd like to think I'll have some fun with some of the slower class B cars when I get some races under my belt, but one particular seriously fast Class C car has to be the first target to catch.wink

Firstly.
As men together here can we please all sign up to a code between us all...

The quoting of monetary value on threads is sacrasanct and has no place on a forum which my wife occasionally logs onto smile

The M section Dunlops are good old historic cross plys.
The car was first and foremost built as a faithful replica of an Fia car. Whether I can be arsed with the joke that is applying for Fia papers these days remains to be seen but technically the car is more of an Fia car than many of the cheque book specials out there since it retains its 40 year old chassis.

The car was built around the CR65 baloons being the largest thing ever likely to be shoved under the arches, as such my logic was that sticking narrower and lower profile tyres under the arches for other series races would be much easier to achieve.

The car also runs Fia compliant brakes Which i would all like you to bear in mind when you consider cutting infront of me on the run into hairpins etcwink

In all likelyhood I will be running slicks and bigger anchors for the series and reverting to historic spec for historic racing.

The Aero package is also still to be installed, This will consist of a lexan block bolted to the drivers door window to allow the raising and lowering of the window dependant upon ambient track temperature and prevailing wind conditionssmile

The engine is in pretty mild tune with about 290hp at the flywheel with an all up weight expected to be around the 890 - 900 kilo mark (without the fat bd behind the wheel)

I am happy in B though since I like to play with the big boys.
I am not one of these shrinking violets that need to hide in the lower powered classes with a detuned carbiggrin paperbag

Its all racing. Someone on the grid whether A,B or C will be posting similar times and become my Mark.

Hopefully metal Mickey in the M will be out at Anglesey and we can start to see some proper C battles.

N.

B?????.......roflrofl it's a 35 year old shed with a 6 cylinder tractor engine!laugh

The air box does weigh quite a bit though. It was fabbed in stainless rather than alloy - winter project is to re-fabricate in alloy or carbon if it works as well as I think it will. If it doesnt, I'll start to post as Daftlad again. roflrofl
