You've got to feel sorry for Lewis - imagine how embarrassing it would be if you'd accepted a challenge in front of loads of people, then your dad tells you you're not allowed out to play! Mortifying.
A glimpse of why F1 drivers are generally so dull? We all know the teams keep a tight reign, but perhaps it's even tighter than I imagined.

I'm sure it would have been received with laughter all round back at McLaren if Lewis had fallen off the bike and broken a bone or several. Seems like the old man's stepped in to protect him from himself.End of the season would be perfectly acceptable though, particularly for charity.

Makes perfect sense to me. Why run the risk of getting injured in an unrelated challenge? He is fighting for a title, Jensen is not. At the end fo the day, both work for companies who pay them strong money to do a certain job, that can't be performed by a stand in in the event of injury.
If Hamilton came off his bike / pulled a muscle etc, he could severely jeapordise his chances to do that job to the best of his abilities, therefore costing him & the company he works for an awful lot of money.
Do it in the off-season by all means, but not smack bang in the middle of a tight title fight.

To be honest, I think it may have more to do with Jenson being a bloOdy good triathlete, and perhaps he challenged Lewis to show him he's not top dog at everything - that's what I would have done!!
Lewis made an ego-led call and said yes in the heat of the moment and with the cameras on him, but his dad may have reminded him that if he loses, he'll come off worse in the media.
Jenson is regarded as one of the fittest drivers out there (perhaps he trains after he crashes out on lap 3..), and a few weeks ago beat his personal trainer hands down in a triathlon.
I fully support both Brits (although Jenson is my home town boy!) but I think the reason Lewis isn't doing it is to stop him being shown up by what he may consider a lesser driver.

Because I'm sure Lewis will only be doing completely safe activities until the end of the season. Like spending hours in the gym every day and driving a 200mph F1 car. Those things are completely safe.End of the season would be perfectly acceptable though, particularly for charity.

Lewis needs to train - this is a way of adding a bit of interest and raising money for charity. Seems a bit OTT to me to pull him out, but indicative of the ever increasing march away from the characters in F1 towards automatons hidden away from public view.

Button is a very good triathlete. I think the challenge was going to be at the Bath Tri at the end of July. JB (according to a mate of his I work with) is still doing it but does quite a few Tri's anyway.LexSport said:

Agreed, Lewis made a comment in his Reebok press conference about being the fittest F1 driver or something - think Jenson and a few others may have taken exception to that! Lewis does seem to come out with some cocksure statements and they are landing him in the sh!t. The topic of triathlon made me laugh though, a family friend recently ran a triathlon in london with JB and his trainer (he went to school with JB's trainer) and beat them both by 4 minutes!
