Jenson's £10K charitable donation - where now?

Congratulations to Jenson Button on his attempt to have some off-track fun and raise lots of money for charity - his request to Lewis for a head-to-heath triathlon would have made a great spectacle and a worthy cause...

...but hang on - Hamilton Senior stopped it - saying that it would detract from Lewis' assault on the F1 WC? Come again??

A charitable event in which Lewis would not have to spend a penny - in the fact that Jenson was putting the money up is a distraction is it Anthony?

So a £10 million pound cheque made out to your son that involves more PR work for another personal endorsement is not a distraction then?

I wonder why he agreed to that, but refused to allow his son to take up Jenson's challenge...?

Triathalon is a very physical demanding passtime that could cause injury and the media circus around it would also not be very helpfull mid-way through a championship. Infact i was very suprised that Lewis initailly agreed to it and that Honda let Jenson do it freely though i guess Jenson getting injured mid-season is no real lose.

Some more reasons:

Slight difference between a couple of amateurs ambling along in a triathalon (where no drafting is allowed, thus bikes must not be within 3 or 4 metres of each other), and those pictures including a mass sprint by the world's top cyclists on the final sprint for the line in Le Tour!

However I agree it isn't something they should do during the season....but it'd be great to see them do it in the off season.

I though JB challenged LH to a triathalon, following a boast, not to the Tour De France, also I believe it possible to drown in the bath so that would also make it possible to fall off a boat during a race and drown.

Also the season last through til November and next season commences in March so could always compete off season, and as Lh is the fittest driver on the circuit he would not need to get himself in condition.

He took up the challenge so he should 'man-up' and see it through.

Oh of course, by my bet is that those are the kind of images that would have gone through the heads of the people who stopped him from competing when they saw him accept the challenge on tele!

His emploer's? I though it was his father/manager who reneged on the deal and said LH would not be taking part in the challenge. Now does his father work for him or does he work for his father?

Suggest you engage your brain comparing Tour De France with a Triathalon.

Oh for crying out loud - he's Lewis' manager, therefore he's the boss. Even though he is paid by Lewis, what he says goes - that's the job of a manager.

I wasn't comparing the Tour to a Triathlon, just illustrating what probably sprung to mind when Anthony saw Lewis accepting the challenge of doing a triathlon mid season.

Well NO.... if someone is 'managing my investments' then they are working for me, as they 'look after' my interests and I pay them to do so, I employ them, they do not employ me.... And if I chose to dispense with their services and employ someone else in their place I am free to do so.

It was his dad who pulled the plug, as his manager.

And quite right too. There is a championship to be won, something that jenson has never had the slightest bit of interest in, and who can blame him when you can still be paid £18mill a year for being the Henman of F1.

Hamilton once again showed that he is very unworldly in some ways by allowing himself to be talked into something like this.

This isn't an issue of employment - you're just insisting on concentrating on one word that I (mis)used in order to completely ignore the point of what I was saying.

A manager's job is to see things from an objective point of view and make decisions for the person they're managing based on their best interests. Lewis wouldn't want to turn down a challenge in front of The World's Mediatm, but I don't think there can be any argument that competing in a triathlon in the middle of a potential championship-winning F1 season is in Lewis' best interests - especially given all this stuff about him needing to 'focus more on his racing'

It's the manager's job to see it from that angle.

Rubbish. I'm a Hamilton fan. I happen to also be a Button fan. It has nothing to do with the driving or any of the tiresome red car / silver car arguments elsewhere.
