Club ginetta drives

Been thinking about getting my ards license and doing a few meetings later this year/next year and been looking at the ginetta club series. Not really in the position to buy/run my own car so was wondering if any teams offer arrive and drive packages for the serious and if so what an approx cost/ reasonable budget was? Can be messaged on here if need be.

I would suggest you try Speedworks Motorsports, they run cars in G20 & G50 & also take in some of the club rounds. A friendly team, good to work with & not too expensive. Call Amy or Christian & have a chat with them.

If you go onto the Ginetta website, there is a full list of teams who could do you prices. Just a word of warning - make sure you know exactly what you're getting for your bucks and what are classed as 'extras'!

What are the actual costs of racing in a team, interested to know how it compares to my budget of being a privateer and borrowing expertise when I cant work out how to put the wheel on

Thanks for the replies everybody, I looked at the website and saw the adverts for drives in the main series but couldn't find anything for the club series. I wasn't even sure if any of the teams ran cars in the club series or whether it was just privateers, I know the prices to run in the national series and they were a bit out of my league to be honest but somebody I know who was involved in ginettas a while back said to have a look at this series as he was told its far cheaper than the national series.

Doing a one-off drive with any team will likely cost a fair bit - expect to pay upwards of £2k for a weekend. It seems like a lot, but when you add up the component costs, you can see how end up there.
- Entry fees: £320 a meeting for Club Ginetta, £705 for F3/GT Ginetta.
- Fuel: £100 a meeting.
- Tyres: £100 a meeting.
- Car hire: Don't know what this would cost individually, but would guess at £300-£500.
- Car insurance: £300-£500. Team may or may not insist on this, but for a first outing, its probably worth it. If you do have a biggy, do you want a £10k repair bill?
- The team: Most teams have wages to pay, accommodation to pay for, transport costs to pay for, thousands of pounds worth of truck and awning to pay for, plus the value of their expertise and experience - so it makes sense that they charge for this. Its easy to see how it can add up to £2k or more without the team making a significant profit out of the thing.

Yes a bit more than that was the figure i was given to run in the national series but didn't include damage, tyres, entry etc. I was just interested because as i said somebody had told me the club series was a fair bit cheaper to run in. Also being nosey and looked at your profile Atom 120, nice to see a fellow 7kart racer! do you still race it?

If your serious I'd look to get my licence asap. The courses can get booked up and you never know.. Once you've got your licence
then you'll be in a position to race and able to see who is interested in running cars for arrive and drive..

If I compare it to my estimated costs:

Fuel: £100 a meeting = £1000
Tyres: 5 sets + wets for year = £2400
Entry Fees: £6000
Damage/Parts: £1000 - £4000 (depending on accidents)

So total: £13,400 for the year

I'm competing in the Club Series this year, i'd say get out there and give it a try. It's good clean cheap racing. The true costs this year so far have been (per meeting):

Fuel - 40L - £45
Tyres - One set per season (i'm serious!) - £25
Entry - £320 (inc VAT)
Hotel - £60
Oil - £5
Brakes - One pad set every 4 meetings - £25

So a total of £500 per meeting plus fuel for the tow car.

I think the Club Series really will take off and hope somebody brings out a G27 soon to get a few of those out of the woodwork.

Ginetta did a superb job choosing the tyre, its great fun to drive on and you will be suprised by the grip level it gives. If your sensible a set will last the year.

Hope to see you out with us soon... if a G20 is out of reach look at some of the G27's that are for sale for less than £6k.

Club Ginetta will be cheaper in terms of entries and tyres - but if you're looking to run with your own car in a team or on an arrive-and-drive basis, then all the other costs the team incur will be the same or very similar, so I'd assume the amount they charge would therefore be similar too.

7kart - ahhh, happy memories - though I've not driven a prokart of any description for nearly two years!

That's roughly what I budget - though Ginetta made me pay VAT on my entry fees...
