Why, i thought it was only after q3 when you were'nt allowed to touch or refuel the cars? it's not not like he gained any advantage in being heavier is it

Seems a pretty clear cut technical breach to me. Whether the rule is correct or not is a moot point after the event, it seems pretty reasonable to me (on safety grounds I presume).

It wasn't what they did, but how they did it.

Why fine the driver - it's not like he had a say in what equipment was used to refuel his car? Surely it should have been the team receiving the fine.

on the itv coverage, the team used a dump can to put some fuel in rather than the mandated refuelling rig. The engine needed to be off for this method to be used

Well i'm glad they levied a fine, which the team will pay, rather than interfering with the racing.

I wonder how the flow rate compares? Given the questionable reliability of the FIA fuel rig, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more teams doing this if it's not an excessively lower flow. €5,000 and you don't have to rely on the vagaries of the "will it, won't it" fuel rig? Sounds pretty cheap to me.

If i remember it correctly - they effectivly did a splash and dash, like a racing pit stop. so he could get out in time to do his laps before the session end.

Fair enough then, it gets the safety message across whilst hitting the team were it hurts the least.

I think I remember seeing one of the McLarens being refuled in the pit lane from something that looked like a milk churn - I guess that was the incident.
