[quote]In other McLaren news, the FIA have decided to check out Lewis Hamilton’s engine after his win in Germany. The FIA says:

“The engine of car number 22 is kept sealed in order to carry out further checks according to Article 5 of the 2008 FIA Formula One Technical Regulations. These checks will be done before the Hungarian GP.”

Just a routine check, but you never know what the FIA might find…

The two choices are not mutually exclusive.

Yes, they will find that nothing is out of order, but that will not prevent them from inventing a reason to disqualify Hamilton.

Are there any reasons given as to why?

We say this but, as it has been pointed out elsewhere on PH both Herbie Blasch and Charlie Whiting are ex-Brabham men, they probably do not favour Ferrari over McLaren, Max Moseley has potentially Nazi leanings so he should adore Mercedes Benz and not bat an eyelid. I think there should be investigations into Bernie's input in everything. He is obviously a Ferrari fan, he is asked by Brundle who will win the race, he always relies Ferrari. How much have they paid him to do that? He is meant to be independant from the FIA.

By the way can you give us the link for the webpage, can't seem to find it anywhere? Or have you got a crystal ball?

Seriously though. Mclaren have to be whiter than white this season after the bullst of last seasons "spying" affair. The FIA wouldn't be that stupid, would they?

I think I have just answered my own question...

Have we got anything to back this up? Is it Do the FIA routinely pull an engine in for checking or is this a first?

The FIA publish a scrutineering report after every race post the final scrutineering check that then gives the results as final, strangely at the moment the one for Germany is blank.

I don't want to get into an anti-Mosley thing: why bother to criticise someone whose venality is obvious already?
Just a few comments regarding your post:
- People tell me that Whiting is straight and that Blash is okay, but they do not call the shots.
- Although Mosley's mum and auntie were in love with Hitler, his father appeared to be closer to the Italians, and it was revealed after the war that the great bulk of the British Union of Fascists' funding came from Mussolini. I'm not aware of any partiality towards modern Germany.
- My own read is that Mosley is motivated by a psychological tension between a presumed superiority and realised inadequacies.
Who are the people at whom he has taken his hardest shots? Ron Dennis and Jackie Stewart. How do they relate to Mosley? Before he connived his way into his jejune political sinecure, Mosley had failed at his attempted careers as a racing driver and as a racing car constructor. Jackie Stewart is Britain's greatest living champion driver, and Ron Dennis is Britain's greatest living constructor. Then we have the fact that Stewart and Dennis are self-made, having come from the working class, whilst Mosley was the son of an aristocrat and was born into a life of privilege and comfort.
It appears to me that Mosley looks down upon Stewart and Dennis as his lessers, whilst he simulataneously is jealous of their success and the wide admiration that they enjoy.
Throw into the mix the fact that Jackie and Ron have stood up more resiliently than anyone else has done to Mosley's attempts to bully motor sport.
A weak, nasty man may be intensely motivated to destroy his potential nemeses.

That is not a good sign "Sorry Mr Dennis, your engine has more power than the red car, penalty"

It may be that they are less expecting to find something that is illegal and more interested in either learning a thing or two that Ferrari would find useful, or simply the old trick of putting Ferrari's rival on the back foot just for the sake of it.

Flemke, I haven't had the chance to responded to any of your posts before, but have always enjoyed reading them. That analysis of Mr Maxs motivation is very interesting and I agree with your views on him, but surely someone with his undoubted, if misused, intelligence, can't be that pusillanimous?

How can you point out that Blasch and Whiting are ex-Brabham men, but not include Ecclescake?? and then go onto infer he's a Ferrari fan??

Of course this then goes deeper, bringing back the "why did they allow Lotus to unceremoniously disappear whereas Ferrari were treated as a special case and given support?" quandry!!

Does anyone know when the previous engine check was and when it happened? Did it ever happen when Ferrari were uber dominant? If so when.

The check probably arose after the "four paddles" steering wheel information was brought into the public domain.. Which they'll probably ban, like the extra brake pedal which McLaren had, then got banned, then Ferrari had something similar a few seasons later (I think, although I might be mistaken.. or maybe they put in a few extra buttons on the steering wheel...) and wasn't banned... Not to forget the Kinetic systems which also got banned (Lotus?) but are now being introduced by the FIA, well done MM..

If its legal there is nothing to find as they already have an engine from each constructor that is homologated for the season, that's what they will be checking it against.
