Silverstone Classic - How Busy ?

Might seem a daft question, but not having been to the Silverstone Classic for some years (OK, since it was called the Coys Festival !!) I was wondering how busy it might be ?

Are we talking big traffic queues to get in ? Just trying to figure out how much extra time I need to allow for in order not to miss too much on the Saturday.

It is busy, and you probably will queue, but it's not that bad and it tends to be one of those queues that keeps moving.

We come in from silverstone village and tend to join a queue where the roundabout for the bypass junction is.

Don't forget that they are set up for F1, The Classic is a smaller event.

last year we were stationary for about five minutes. we arrived at 9am but it was pretty quiet all day (saturday). loads of space to wander round, find a good grandstand seat, wander through the infield. it was nice to watch a race from the infield grandstand at copse, then another from woodcote, back to the outside of copse...

so much more friendly and relaxed than the goodwood event.

I've been on Saturday for the last 3 years and there wasn't a hint of traffic.

I'm not sure if i'll be going this year as IMO the tickets are too expensive for a single day.

same cars, £12 less than goodwood and you get free grandstands around the circuit, no need to dress up and a tenth of the people... works for me!

Where else can you see a full day of racing, cars of this standard, all the other entertainment and take the children for £30.00?

I think it’s fantastic value for £30. You also get full pit access.

£35 on the day. I'd love to be able to plan a visit to a race meeting months in advance to get a few pounds off but sadly i can't.

They were indeed £25 (I just checked) and while that's a fairly heft rate of inflation I don't, personally, find it that extortionate for a whole days entertainment, particularly when there are other attractions laid on to help keep children amused for example. The fact that my daughter gets in for free is a real bonus - I specifically avoided events like the Brooklands Double Twelve because I felt the prices being charged for entry (adults and children) and parking were excessive.

Mind you, she's looking forward to seeing, hearing and smelling (she's a bit of a petrolhead already !!) the old cars and she's been asking me if she'll get to sit in any of them, and she's only 8 !!

Does anyone know if you can drive around the circuit and say go down to Stowe or around by Vale?

You can walk, it's not far at all.

Good for you. The website states that the discounts ended on June 30.

Just spoke to Jerry @ Motion Works (Organisers)

He in forms me that there are 3 double decker courtesy buses allowing spectators access to all round the circuit.

Never been to this event before or heard what a 80's GP and Group C cars sound like.

What can I expect?

and is worth taking some ear defenders for the nipper?

Silverstone's not as bad as some places for noise as you're a fair distance from the track (mostly) but ear protection for the little 'un is a wise precaution.

Generally the turbo cars aren't *that* noisy - it's sort of flat, dull exhaust note. But some of the normally aspirated cars can be a bit raucous.

Take the ear defenders (I will be) and then decide if you need to use them or not.

For what it's worth, I went many years ago when a BRM V16 was running on the GP circuit and you could hear it round the entire lap - every gearshift and blip of the throttle. Glorious stuff !!
