Renault to investigate Ferrari pit stop

Perhaps Kimi still had fuel in the tank, and they calculated that a quick top-up at that time would fuel him enough and get him out in front. Doing it at that time would protect against a safety car issue (the McLaren excuse), while also protect against Kimi making another error or Alonso finding more speed with fresh tyres and so removing the possibility of the jump.

I doubt their investigation will be a long one.

Bit ironic that it's Renault, nee Benetton, suggesting that fuel rigs have been tampered with. I seem to remember Benetton removing a saftey device from their rig one season to speed up fuel flow. It all went bent at the German GP when a copniderable amount of fuel (vapour for the pedants) caught fire, resulting in Verstappen and a mechanic receiving burns. And, one would assume, creating a considerable threat to the rest of the pits complex including the executive boxes above them.

I can't quite remember the penalty they received for this dangerous attempt at cheating but it must have been considerably more than McLaren received for not keeping check on their cheif mechanic and two of its drivers. And who was in charge of Benetton in those days?

I must say I was suprised theat Kimi came out of the pits with a good lead over Alonso. Given that Kimi had made a biggish mistake that had given Alonso a decent cusion - some 3+ seconds IIRC it seemed strange that they came out with the situation reversed!

I assumed at the time that Alonso had made a similar mistake.

Can anyone obtain the pitstop timings for both? I recall being a bit suprised at the time that Kimi had jumped Alonso by a good 3-4 seconds in a single lap.

This will get the conspiracy theorists active. If you go to www.formula1.com the official timing website, go to the Hungarian results, then the pitstop summary, you will see that Kimi is missing, according to that he made no stops...........

I think Kimi's pitstop was just a "splash and dash" and to get the new tyres on which they had to use. earlier in the race, james Allen commented that Kimi would be saving fuel behind Alonso- maybe it was part of the plan all along. Unfortunantly for the team I support, both Rosberg and Nakajima took this plan too far, and didnt get close to the podium....this time....

I think Renault got a huge fine and a race ban. Must of... I mean, can you imagine if they didnt get anything!

During the ITV race coverage there were not times for Kimi's pit stops displayed on screen, and after his second stop he disappeared off the timings altogether according to the commentators.

yip, was watching with Live Timings on the comp - kimi didnt record a time for a while... just showed him placed in the pack, but not lap/sector times.

was the same with Hekki a couple of weeks ago - he disappeared off the live timing screen for portion of the race.

i try to avoid the possiblity of mispelling Ferrari, by just calling them Fiat (",)

I seem to recall that Benetton successfully argued that they had infomed the FIA that they were taking the safety filters out of their rigs and the FIA said something along the lines of "... well that's all right Flav.. no problem!"
Wasn't Tom Walkinshaw involved in Benetton then too ?

i was very bemused to see kimi quite so far infront as well .
he went from behind to a large lead in what seemed a few laps!

the fuel rig fires where also cause for concern!

As being pedantic is in fashion, can we at least try to get our punctuation correct? Mr Kipling43's quoted statement is a question, and therefore should have been finished with a question mark. There is also a superfluous and incorrect use of hyphens when commas were appropriate.

Oh for goodness sake.

I'm not being pedantic - although it is unlike me to miss a question mark off. I appreciate the need to think in terms of readability and expression of meaning rather than strict grammatical correctness in a forum, but the regular mispelling of a team name with the addition of an 'a' just winds me up a bit.
