hi,
so im looking at doing the g20 cup next year as an arrive and drive package.
i have spoken to one team about this and require some more input.
what sort of all inclusive budget(eg. tyres, fuel, testing)should i be looking at? and who should i talk to in order to get a drive?

The list of Ginetta teams is available on the Ginetta website here -> http://www.ginettacars.com/SeniorGinetta/teams.htm

Give them a call, all very friendly and full of knowledge of prepping and racing Ginettas.

Budgets, if doing club series then I would guess around 6-8k for the season (excluding car). For the G20 Senior championship series I am looking at a budget of 15-20k (excluding car).

I am currently doing a break down of the costs I have spent this year which will show exactly what I have spent and how much it costs (as a privateer). Though I keep threatening to do this and haven't actually got round to it - I think the fear of the total might be holding me back!

Hi Lewis,
Media coverage?! Pretty much none! It's very much back to club racing with the only spectators being the friends and relatives of the drivers! The grid sizes are about a third of that of the cup championship but, as you are probably aware, the costs are a lot less too! You can also just do the odd race here or there without having to commit to the whole year (which is what Ginetta wanted everyone to do for the Cup Championship this year).
Drop me a line if you want to know any more. smile

The standards this year are good for a one make series. The round last weekend was not normal for this season. Last year, unfortunately, I'd have to say it was normal.

I would agree with Spencer (No.52), the driving standards have been good and unfortunately there were a few damaged cars on Sunday but three were down to a spin in the first corner and no where to go, which can happen in any class so wouldn't read into it too much.

This is my first season in G20s and it has been immense fun (with a bit of frustration too as I am usually at the front and this hasnt been the case this year). There are a few who have never raced before in the series and battles all through the field to keep you entertained.

I'd have to agree with Spencer and Pete. This year the standard is pretty good (although I did get taken out on the first lap of the second race yesterday leaving me with a broken rear hub!). Previous years were a little demolition darby-like!
Well done Pete by the way on the second race - I assume you know Sykes got disqualified so you ended up 6th! Sorry I didn't get a chance to say hi - I was having a nightmare weekend and I wasn't feeling very sociable!!!!

.... and obviously well done Spencer (I promise I didn't boo coz you beat Julian!!!) smile

sorry to hear about the take out.

OP, all the clubs are really friendly, and its a 'never to be repeated' atmosphere down on race days. Great watching all the drivers being buddies off the track, then that switch happens as they drive out biggrin

I'd also agree that the driving standards this year are much better than last year, and generally seem to be better than in the G50 cup, British GT and F3. Hopefully Silverstone was a one-off - and of the two big accidents in race 1, one was a first corner spin, and the other was a mechanical failure on a car that led to the driver having no option but to park his car in the back of mine! Neither incident was malicious or intentional, so I wouldn't worry about the driving standards.

As for teams - the only two I really know well are Reflex and Optimum - they offer different packages, for different budgets, but both are very good.

It's ok, I'm used to the booing from the Reflex Patrons......

What was up with JB, he seemed to have an off weekend?

Not sure about JB - think it was just a few niggling things - and having a couple of 'incidents' in race one didn't help and a crap start in race 2!

(...and I promise the boos are with the greatest of respect!)

And the cars don't really need to be run under an arrive 'n' drive package - there's a few that have proven you can do it pretty well yourselves (2007 - Dan Laddiman, Ben Elliot & Andy Smith were effectively doing it themselves with family and were at the sharp end throughout & I'd have included Matt NJ in that but the Academy Motorsports outfit may have objected!). 2008 has the additions of PH's very own PD plus Spencer & Russell, Kieron isn't part of any big outfit and there's a good number of cars being run successfully on a lower budget...

Great opportunity to learn more about setting the car up if you do it yourself and there's no lack of assistance or advice - just need to ask and people will always give an opinion, suggestion or simply a helping hand. Whilst I'm selling mine - that's more down to personal finance (and not adapting to RWD) than any reflection on the series itself.
