your right Terry, maths isn't your strong point!! smile

There are 4.54 litres in a gallon, so the fuel for the 24Hr is a snip at only £9.08 per gallon.....and you have to use it for the pre-race test on thursday as well.....

Hi Everyone

Fuel for the 24hr, needs to cover the cost of the Petrol Station, which is approx £35k, so if you say 60 cars x .80p x 800ltrs per car is about £38k. I think that makes at the price I pay ...approx .99p plus .80p £1.79 plus vat £2.10. I dont mind running a race meeting but I work bl.....y hard and I deserve a profit.

James, I don't think anyone would begrudge you making a profit

It's not the making of profits that people don't understand, it's the business that I am in they don't understand, as it is very different to any normal business.

Every circuit, every timetable, every local buy law, every steward and everyone you meet wants to do, what you want to do, Their Way......which does not work, because they generally don't understand how to look after a customer.

All the same James, 2 quid a litre does seem a hell of a price. I reckon we'd use closer to 1400 litres over the weekend & as has been mentioned already the tax situation could well do with looking onto as could a sponsorship package. I'd have though £35k was chicken feed for the publicity someone could get with all those tasty motors running for 24 hours on their motion lotion !

I think some of the comments have been made on the back of your mantra of providing economic racing, (and indeed the often repeated message in and around last year's dinner that britcar was a non profit making organisation, (although circumstances at the time may have prompted your statements wink )

You can't say anything these days without some old git like me remembering smile

The other thing about fuel at £2 a litre is that a car like ours could pretty much buy an FIA fueling rig for the extra fuel costs over the weekend !

Maybe, i know we're an awkward bunch and I don't think there is anyone on here that would not acknowledge that your job is not an easy one, but most of us are in business, we do understand the ins and outs and what it costs and that's what they/I see, £2.00/L is i'm sure more than anyone has paid this season for 99, certainly 30% more than I have, I think Henry has a point about sponsorship

Fuel will be always be something people dont like paying, change the world price for me and I can make your racing cheaper. The pumps/equipment/safety staff/licences/tanker transport/insurance and administration, so this is why .60p per litre has been added to pay for it all, if you don't want this form of delivery of the fuel, then the race will not happen, as the MSA will not allow it to happen , for safety reasons, so I am afraid that is it.

(I think Henry has a point about sponsorship as well),.....yes find me one, or I will have to find a way of funding.....and that is what I have done.

Have to agree to disagree then James, my fuel at 30% less also had the same considerations to take into account and they still had to make a profit, can't really see the difference to be honest

How differcult is it, we build a petrol stattion valued at 120k pounds on circuit, it is unique, we do not just buy some petrol and get it delivered.

I for one would be happy to pay Britcar £2 per litre especially if the government didnt take a road tax out of it. Even happy for the extra profit to go to Britcar to help run the 24 hour. However, lets be honest, how much of the road tax on fuel actually goes into the roads anyway!
My 10 pence worth. 'Red petrol' sounds like a plan!

.. must be a hefty insurance premium alone, for just covering the big petrol tank. I can't imagine how much that contains - 100,000 litres, 200,000 litres?

When you consider, two years ago we had Henry's (I think) 911 on fire, when a small spill caught light on the brakes, and the TVR went up in flames last year, both next to petrol pumps - that must constitute one hell of a risk, despite all the safety equipment / features etc.

... and as far as I'm aware there isn't an insurance company that has registered charity status.

Somehow I managed to be in the re-fuelling lane for both of those fires.

Are you sure? This is PH after all. Most seem to expect people organising events to pay for everyone else. Present company excepted of course.
