Evil cheating FIA aside..what will happen to F1 coverage when on BBC?
okay so quali and the race should be fine because they don't show anything else other than bowls but what about all the other stuff..
ITV have the GP2 races live (races which are exciting and don't have ferrari involved so the FIA don't meddle), they repeat quali etc etc. they manage to do all this because they have ITV4. they also show WTCC highlights which I have always thought they showed as part of a package of FIA events (but this may not be correct).
okay so it'd be amazing to lose james allam... but not at the expense of losing GP2 et al!

According to someone on Digitalspy:
- Candidates for commentary are David Croft, Ben Edwards and Jonathan Legard.
- James Allen will have no involvement in the coverage whatsoever.
- The BBCi source says they will have four feeds via BBCi - 4 feeds - world feed (aka BBC1 coverage), onboard, data and highlights.
- There will be the option for Five-Live commentary apart from highlights where it will be TV only.
- The three practice sessions will only have radio commentary if available via BBCi.
- BBC's equipment is ready for HD, with the rest is up to FOM.
- The races will always be on BBC1, unless a major event forces a switch to BBC2. If a race over-runs, coverage shall stay on BBC1.
- Races will be on BBC iPlayer.
- It is expected that the normal TV commentators will provide commentary for practice sessions, with an option to switch to radio commentary.
- A "no commentary" option was suggested; but no word on whether it will be implemented.
- No answer for GP2 coverage, no final details yet finalised for it to be screened on BBCi.
- No radio options will be available when 5 Live Xtra is not broadcasting.
- BBC Trust would have to approve turning BBC Parliament into a sports channel for the summer months.

Don't forget that BBC have BBC3 and 4 as well.
they share bandwidth with ceebebies and CBBC though (and they're on during the day - i.e. they're the same channels so F1 would be on between ballamorie and tinky winky!

I always wondered why ITV could not have transmitted it in a similar way. I.E so that adverts could be inserted but the action picked up afterwards and the whole race transmitted.
The most important aspect of the BBC covering F1 again, is no James Allen. Anyone who calls their children Enzo and Emerson, needs thier head looking at. Keep Steve Rider, Brundle and the rest of the ITV crew as they all seem to fit in really well. Moreover, we can expect a decent and lengthy pit walk with Martin Brundle again and none of this 2-minute scramble to get as much in as possible. Hopefully that'll mean more indepth interviews. I do like the idea of watching the race live on ITV's website, so perhaps the BBC can somehow intergrate this into the new service. Thankfully for all of us fans we can catch the race live again on 5 Live if we're not near the box. Can't wait for the BBC F1 season to get underway again.
I wonder if the beeb will have thier own pit studio like ITV had in the early days? I can't stand Mark Blundell and Steve Rider hovering around the pits like two amature TV presenters. And will somebody tell Rider to sort out his beaufont hairdo. I just want to get the scissors out and trim those enormous side tufts of hair!

I dont quite get the slating of James Allen? certainly knows his facts. Not the most exciting of commentators, but far superior to what many countries get.
Brundle WAS exciting when he used to slip in scarcasm on insider knowledge of the drivers, but thats gone away, and his own commentary isn't that sparkling.
I would assume the full team will change sides to BBC.
BBC3 +BBC4 could be used non CBBC times for repeats in the evening.

It certainly how they handle MotoGP on BBC2- BBCi for qualifying on Saturday and post race interviews after the race. A bit too rapid the switch over IMO on Sunday.
Maybe we could get Suzy Perry instead???

Brundle needs to stay, he is the best member of the team by far, a proper ex-driver, sure he never won a GP but he was just pretty damn good considering the crappy machinery he had to put up with at times (Pug engined McLarens anyone?) and I find all his documentary bits quite interesting before the race, especially when he drove the old GP cars at Silverstone.
At one time, wasn't Richard Hammond rumored to be commentating?
