What is the point of a championship judged on points awarded on an artificial scoring sysem where a driver challenging for the lead can't be arsed to overtake a car that's more than a second slower?

In those last few laps we should have seen LH not only challegning Rosberg but, having passed, putting everything in to catching and getting past Alonso. In other words a race. But instead we see LH switching off his engine and coasting. I know it's not the only limit: he's got to look after his engine as well - another artificial restriction on racing.

I mean, how naff is the whole thing? It's getting like that supid television programme where teams from different countries did stupid things to a commentary by that well-named chap, Eddie Waring. I remember its name later.

It should be run on the number of wins and then seconds and down the order. That'd make it a bit more exciting.

simple answer;

1st place = 25 points
2nd place = 18 points
3rd place = 12 points
4th place = 8 points
5th place = 5 points
6th place = 3 points
7th place = 2 points
8th place = 1 points

then people will start challenging for places...

and a point for fastest lap. Always liked this idea: it would liven up the end of the race, as everyone with low fuel levels would at least try.

Wouldnt work, the teams at the back would simply treat the race as a qualifying session as its the only way they would score.

eh? surely we want to see drivers going for 100% in their cars all the time??? This would make it exciting (and think about how many extra points your Kimi would have ny now...).

Because they would not be in the same race as everyone else, simply sharing the track. In and out of the pits every other lap for a splash more fuel or new tyres.

If a team is capable of getting a fastest lap then they're definitely capable of getting 7th place or better and therefore worthwhile challenging for position rather than fastest lap and getting more points that way.

Well 9th place Jenson Button manged a faster lap in qualifying than the fastest lap of the race by Raikkonen. It also sounds a much easier way of getting a point.

There have been many formulas in the past and present with points for the fastest lap. It hasn't turned them into what you describe.

Use your brain and think about it, that is exactly what would happen. If a team has no chance of points then why would they pound around the track with a full tank of fuel and worn tyres? They would forget about the race and just treat it as qualifying - why wouldnt they?

Don't make F1 more complicated, make it less complicated. IMO the return to slicks and fewer aero addenda next year should help the racing be better, so people in faster cars can get closer to the cars in front and overtake without losing most of their grip. Then overtaking would be less of a risk.

Why were the cars so much slower than their qualifying times, the top 10 i mean.

Surely they are out there on their same fuel loads and tyres as quali?

And yet it was lap 14 when fastest lap came up, in the first 10 Massa and Hamilton seemed to be a second off their times, wiht lighter cars??

Are they allowed to do anything to the cars after quali, like tyre pressures, wing adjustments are anythung, (the top 10 I mean)?

On these mickey mouse circuits where there is likely a safety car, whether issues etc? I am begining to wonder whether 11th on the grid is the best starting place! More options!

Will it ever get as farcical as WRC where no one wants to be "pole" on last day??

Because Q1 and Q2 are done on fumes and Q3 is on brand new tyres. In the race you have a full tank of fuel, by the time your fuel load if lighter the tyres arent at their peak.

If you had the chance to get BACK 6 points stolen by Ferrari Int ass- and with a bit of luck there even may not be a stewards meeting as we speak, that will rewrite the script---to allow you know who to have finished in the top three----But Dont count on it!!!.

Congratulations to Ferrari,s supreme pit crew--showing just how to achieve the ultimate farce--dont say a word!! they will not notice.

The ultimate farce is F1 itself, and today was good evidence, the least of which was Ferrari's incompetence.

I just checked and the Q3 guys cannot add fuel after Q3 before the race, ie in parc ferme. They can apparently change tyres after q3 and before the race.

The none top 10 teams can add fuel and change tyres.

Apparently all teams can make "minor wing adjustments" anything more and its pit lane start.

So again, why were massa and hamilton so much slower in the first 10 laps than qualifying? Conditions seemed th same, they were both on the hard tyres like they used in Q3?

Maybe just driving 95%??

How about

1st place qualifying = 25 points
2nd place qualifying = 20 points
3rd place qualifying = 19 points
etc

Then reverse the grid

Then give
15 for 1st
10 for 2nd
6 for 3rd
etc

That would certainly see people trying a bit more!
