I'm glad he didn't mess up this time but a bit of drama makes it more interesting!

Japan wasn't fun because of Hamilton's mistake. There was generally more action in Japan than in China.

I suppose Hamilton fans might have liked Japan because he had was set back by Massa's bump, and needed to thread his way through the field. But even that wasn't really interesting.

To be fair to LH, he messed upthe first corner. Massa messed up throughout the race. That's what made it more 'interesting'.

I agree, the mistakes make you appreciate how big an achievement it is not to make any.

but we'd rather have a field of exciting drivers who take risks rather than a field of drivers who play it safe, as Hamilton did in China (he didn't need to do anything else). This means that when drivers do make the wrong call, because they took a (n exciting) risk, the shouldn't be criticised.

I can't see how, qualifying on pole, leading from the lights, being consistantly quicker than everyone else all weekend, AND taking the fastest lap can possibly be seen as "playing it safe" ??? However, I agree that incident packed races, and drivers taking risks when they need to, do make for better viewing.

hamilton was driving much more slowly than he could have during the race. in practice they had plenty of fuel in. (according to McLaren).
