Bernd Schneider to retire after this weekend

I guess he's Germany's forgotten motorsport legend, a bit like Andy Priaulx to the UK.

IIRC he had a few starts for Zakspeed in F1 but otherwise was a Merc Man for life, making a good wage doing a job he loved.

Personally i thought he was looking likely to retire a few years ago when he seemed to go right off the boil but he's been righ back on it recently.

I expect we will see him troted out a few times a year though to peddle some of the classic cars about.

He's far from forgotten here in Germany. What with being the biggest name in the biggest domestic series & all.

Andy P gets forgotten 'cos he's not in the domestic series - you can't compare him with Schnieder.

& Di Resta is testing for a GP 2 team about now & if that goes well he's going to walk away from the DTM.

Which will leave 2 top Merc seats open & hope they don't give 1 to Ralf S as he's done nothing to even justify being given a 2 year old car next year let alone a new 1.

My guess is that Gary Paffet will get 1 of the seats & that Matthius Lauda will be screaming for the other.

Yes don't worry abput Bernd. Definately not a forgotten hero.

My favourite driver of all time. I am convinced that given the right breaks he would have eclipsed Schuey and Ayrton in F1. Instead he got a crap simtek ford.

Don't assume Sutil is a fixed deal for 2009 with the option for Mercedes to supply Force India with engines and drivetrain next year.

Schneider along with Ludwig, the best touring car/GT drivers Germany has produced.

Id heard about the force India thing, norbert has said he'd rather that paul did gp2 or dtm next year though. Still it'd be handy to have a scot replace DC next year
