Every year I do the same thing, I miss the live race and settle down that night to watch the highlights.
This is mainly because of family stuff / work stuff and that time on my own at night is my F.A. cup final, my yearly Olympics, you know, important stuff I tells ya!
So, this year at 10.45PM I wobble downstairs, crack open a beer as I flick the TV on.
Ohhhhh NO NO NO!!!!
I am greeted to a grinning gurning t
t, reading the news with a big picture of Lewis Hamilton, all 'thumbs up' in his car.
"bkS!" - Is all I could say, silly me for leaving the TV on BBC 1 before I last turned it off, I really shoud know better.
Then, said gurning gonad fades to black, and honestly I can not believe what I see next...

Yes, ITV have announced the final F1 result of the year, and their final one ever just before they show the highlights.

Been out to a trackday, waited 4 hours for a well known breakdown service to bother to show up to recover a car and so missed the live race. Managed to avoid any contact with the outside world, settled down to watch the highlights at 10:45 and instead got the news announcing the Hamilton was world champion as ITV can't even run their fecking station on time. It boggled my mind, my wife thought there was a murder in progress as I was literally (in a slightly raised voice) going 'No, No, NO NO AWWW NOOO!' as I tried in vain to press the ITV button, convinced I was watching BBC.
And following close behind were 1 or 2 fellow PHers, who could simply see no wrong whatsoever in posting the result (and related titles) as the title of threads.
And simply could not grasp the concept that perhaps not everyone will have watched the race live, and may not want to know the result just yet
We must have edited/deleted/locked about 100 seperate threads - mostly duplicates of each other.

I pretty much avoided the whole internet / TV / friends all day...
In context, this would be like if PH ran a contest that meant the world to us all and 10 minutes before the contest began 'fade to black' AND THE WINNER IS!
Kudos to your mods though, must have been tough

I recorded the highlights as I missed the start of the race. When I watched the highlights yesterday I was amazed that the news announced the results just before the highlights and that it was running late enough for my video recorder to catch it.
Maybe it's a final kick in the 'daddy-bits' from ITV now that they lost the rights to F1? And what was with the ad-break in the highlights with 4 laps to go? I'm really looking forward to no adverts.

Fortunately I saw the race live but my girlfriend wanted to see the highlights (she knew the result) and we turned on a bit late and I agree totally out of order no warning straight in "LH is world Champion", bs I said, just imagine if you'd avoided watching the news all day.
It happens all the time though on both BBC and ITV with them announcing football rsults just before the highlights, again with little or no warning, makes my blood boil.
The advert break wasn't there in the actual race just the highlights, odd place to put it I agree but you didn't miss any of the action.

If you want the tension and drama then watch it live - it IS what live sport is about.

I must admit, that is particularly cruel of them.
Surely it would be politeness to not put the news on at the exact time the highlights should be starting?
I'm sure they did the "if you dont want to know the result, look away now", however, that doesn't help if you turn on at 10:48 for a 10:45 start.

I just couldn't watch it live, for many reasons, the fact is that when I turned the TV on, and the result was there for all to see, I though 'ah well' and left it (after trying to flick to ITV even though I was still on it).This wasn't a 'If you don't want to see the results look away now' type deal, it was a full blown 15 minute segment before the race
