Well thats a surprise! Will anyone really bother going along to this? I thought it was always cool looking around the carpark but now this wont be possible. Does this mean that there will be loads of drunk people?

Inevitable considering the location...but RIP British GP I reckon. I was offered a free ticket to Silverstone this year. The hassle over sorting parking at the last minute meant I passed up on the offer - imagine how I'd feel after paying over £100? Public transport links to race circuits are dreadful in my experience.
There will still be lots of people trying to get in and out in their cars for certain. People will drive as far as they can and then park up in a ditch/layby/entre of a roundabout and walk or bike the last few miles.
There will still be a certain number of people who will have the right passes.
There will be bus loads of people all over the place.

So after the race is over do you join a queue of a hundred thousand people? And when the 50-seater bus has finished the 2 hour trip, in a queue with another 500 busses doing 4 round trips and after the 4 hour wait, you'll find your stripped-out car after half an hour but you won't be able to go anywhere as the field it was in is now a quagmire...
Its probably because with the changes it needs to make it long enough for F1 - there wont be any space for parking.
Transport links are shocking to racetracks - because they are all right in the countryside, the only place where there is enough space to build a racetrack.
People will just drive as near as they can and park on the roadside, nearby pubs, hotels etc etc it will be carnage. It puts me off.
I'd rather drive the 150 miles and get a £30 parking ticket than public transport it. But if I went I would stay in a nearby hotel and leave the car there.

kers! The problem with Donny is access, everyone moans after every large meet. How long did people sit after the MPG? 3, 4, 5 hours? At least they are trying to offer something different and better planned that the usual free for all.
At the Air Tattoo down Fairford they have park and ride, off base car parks, off site camping and this is a place in the middle of the wolds with country lanes for access.
I expect the surrounding area being opened up for the GP. Farmers offering camping, parking etc. Secure parking can be done at East Midlands airport if you need. And if you keep the roads clear of clowns in Chelsea tractors trying to do 3 point turns or dump on a verge this might work. The Police would definitely be consulted on all this and they'd cone off roads from parking, get one way systems in place, etc.
The only pissboiler is that you'll have to carry all your gear and have no where to hide if it rains. But then again, it's the same at Silverstone.
I'll be at Donny for the GP 'if' it happens. I love the circuit and will look forward to getting my dedicated bus route off the circuit, back to the aiport, get the car and be on the M1 before Murray has even realised the race has finished.

Good luck with that, if it's organised in any way, you'll get your allocated bus ticket for 6:30pm, which will give you enough time to get a seat in the cafe for a £20 Egg 'n' Chips

We went to silverstone 08 and was really impresesd with the ease of using our own car. Paid for the spot and noticed how many people had parking tickets for not paying. They must have made a fortune (revenue donnington will miss out on)! But also part of the fun is driving a nice car to the track and having some legal banter on the way home.

Beds are going to be at a massive premium so I wouldn't be surprised if the local community arrange some kind of Homestay scheme offering B&B for 2/3 nights.That's utterly stupid, why have a massive car park such as the one at Donnington and keep it empty? Having been to the same event at both Silverstone and Donnington, I don't really see much difference in access once you actually get there. And as far as the new additions to the track goes, I'm fairly certain they didn't cut into the car park.

So you might get something after the GP but it won't be anything "big" and given the problems Donington already has with the size of the Paddock I would imagine the organisers would struggle to have enough Paddock space to run anything above what they are required to run.
I'm not surprised by "no private cars" at all.
