Should Honda go, was last season his swansong?

Unless he finds his way in to a Toro Rosso (or Brawn manages to save the team and have Ferrari engines) then yes, his time in F1 is over. No other team has a vacancy, and there are younger (and therefore cheaper) drivers out there.

Jenson is simply in a car that has been very uncompetitive recently, and this has IMO possibly effected his motivation.

You can see that the guy is a great driver by the way he takes care of the car, he is one of the smoothest drivers currently in F1 and in a fast car he would be competing for wins.

I just hope he stays in F1 for long enough for Honda to get the car to a race winning standard.

Just seen the relevant news, I guess if it is true he may take a sabbatical and be back with another team, become a test driver or look into GT racing maybe.

It would be a real shame to lose him from F1 though, he could still drive for years to come.

Much as I'd love to see him in a competative car, with a competative team, and given a chance for the title, I don't think it'll ever happen.

I'd be surprised if he wasn't planning his exit tbh

They are keeping the same drivers for 2009, so unless Sutil or Fisichella can be edged out then that is not a destination for him.

Nah. In F1 he's still considered one of the best drivers on the grid, not just with pace, but in consistency and racecraft. That's been proven. Another team will snap him up either this season or next far in favour of a rookie.

Well, if Rosberg jumps ship from williams after 2009 (like he's threatening to) then I think Frank might be willing to take him back. Regardless of the contract turmoil that Jenson and Frank went through in 2004/05, he still rates JB as a driver.

+1 Hope they can survive but honda is a real shock. Its when Toyota pull out that we know its bad......

Thats the acid test ,seeing if the real racers can stand the heat not just the corporate bigwigs worrying about their colosal industies/shares/bonus`s etc.

Honda did not have a title sponsor so they were footing the entire bill, Williams have a number of sponsors (Philips I see to recall have just increased theirs) so lets hope they can can sort it.

Never was there a man who has so fallen in love with both himself and the idea that he is a F1 driver.

Great talent to start off, could have been a Prost, got too rich, too quick and stopped concentrating on the job in hand.

This year he didn't even look like he was trying.

P.S. I know two young ladies who have been on the end of his chat up technique and both of them described him as being "more than a little full of himself".

well im looking forward to seeing what button will do if he does manage to get a drive, it will certainly be when i finally make my decision on him. if he still drive uselessly for another team then he needs to sod off to something else.

This is sad news this morning. I really had high hopes for Honda next year, sounds like their car is already finished, so all a big corporation needs to do is keep the team as it is, but secure a new engine supply. With all the money that's been going into Prodrive recently, and their previous technical involvement with Honda, I could see them doing it, but perhaps running different engines. Like it's been said, Ross Brawn has the connections to get a Ferrari engine supply. Fingers crossed everything turns out good.

Of course Honda can withstand the cost - its trivial to them. Their problem is "is it worth it?" when several years racing efforts have failed. Its a business proposition - unlike Williams, Honda dont race for the sake of racing but to support car sales. Smae with Toyota.
