Just read about the stage cancellation. Unbelievable. I know the current tyre rules mean this sort of thing is possible, but it's still utterly pathetic. Tyre technology has moved on so far since the old days that they should be able to tiptoe through the stage okay.
It's just complete rubbish. If it snows tonight the whole of tomorrow could be cancelled.
The conditions are the same for everyone, so they should just get on with it.

Cutting stages to 3 and 4km long because the weather is a bit nasty goes against everything that rallying should be.
Bes9ides Rally GB has always been about very difficult and changeable weather conditions. I really can't believe that the drivers or the spectators were planning to attend only if it was sunny and warm.
Maybe the organisers should issue every competitor, marshal and spectator with a big ball of cotton wool while they're at it?
Any wonder that interest in world rallying is on the decline?

Yes, and not just the RAC, but all rallying is supposed to be like that. Longer stages on the Monte used to start on dry tarmac, but as they ascended Turini they'd pass through water, ice and snow. It was what they did.Some on PH have accused those of us from the 'old guard' of rallying of looking at thing through rose-tinted specs, telling us that rallies are decided by seconds now instead of minutes and how the current cars are really exciting. It's crap. A day of World Championship rallying should never consist of a few 4km stages and a silly little superspecial.
When the RAC was a real event the drivers (the Finns, mainly) used to call the Sunday stages 'Mickey Mouse', but that was nothing compared to the rubbish that's occurring today. If Mikkola, Vatanen, Blomqvist and Alen pay any attention to WRC anymore they must be despairing at what a farce their great sport has become.
I was going to post about this, I was going to go into the forests tomorrow but I don't think I'll bother now. Having read about the farce of them reducing the stages to 3 and 4kms, I don't understand what the problem is, a bit of rain and snow, for a rally? That's the whole point ffs.

I wonder what Colin McRae(RIP) and Richard Burns(RIP) would make of it all?
Stages cancelled because there is too much ice on the road? Its a gravel forest track, run a couple of marshall cars through and the top surface of ice should break up!!
If this is happening in Wales no doubt we'll have the same FIA delegate in Ireland in January cancelling stages because there is too much muck on the class c and unclassified roads used as stages!!

Rallying was the first motorsport that really captured my imagination. Seeing McRae come thought the forrest in the dark was worth the 2 hour trek from the carpark in the freezing conditions.
Now I cant even be arse to follow it on TV, another sad reflection of how to ruin a perfectly good sport.

For several years, the GB (RAC then) rally heralded the start of winter weather in the UK. I remember watching it in the 80's on the original Top Gear with William Woollard presenting over 5 (yes 5) days and nights. There was often a sudden change in the weather and these were Group B cars.
If you tell that to the H&S nambies, they'll laugh in your face!

I suppose the other thing that has changed would be the mentality of the drivers. If the stages weren't cancelled would you get drivers threatening to walk and the possible death of the WRC in the UK?
Still I would much rather be out in the stages, than sat here convalescing at home!
