So what actually is the point of F1?

I’d always assumed that the idea was
Various people making money by owning or working for teams that made and entered the cars.
The cars are driven by people who get paid a lot of money, but who would do it for nothing if they weren’t.
All the above was paid for by people that ran large companies spending their shareholders’ money so that they and their friends could go to the races and sit in the teams’ hospitality trailers and rub shoulders with various famous people and have a jolly good time.
Am I wrong?

foreign VIP's pay money to bernie for a jolly nice day out. they have a nice air-conditioned enclosure to mince around in, getting served lovely food and drinking lovely champagne, getting seen in the place to be seen. they may get to see some celebrities too, possibly a driver or two, although they only know that they're famous, not who they actually are (hence the team jackets).
