performance difference between 996gt3 and 997gt3

Hi Guys i am new on here and new to racing just finished my first season racing I started with a 2004 996 gt3 cup car fitted with a recardo sequental which i had a great season in porsche open in ireland and in august sold it because i got good money for it and replaced it with a 2006 997 gt3 ex parker racing car but the thing is i dont find it a lot quicker than the 996 and i really thought it would be now a lot could be down to my inexperience as the car has won races in carerra cup in 2006 and Gt cup this year but i was just wondering what you guys thought the difference in laptimes would be

You might be better posting this on the Britcar Forum as there are 996s and 997s in that championship and the forum is a bit more active than this one. I am racing a 997 this year in Britcar and GT Cup so maybe wil see you this year................?

Cheers for that i plan to do a round or two of gt cup this season but want to get a bit more experience first

Well I raced my Supercharged Exige most of last season against 996 & 997 CUP cars in GT Cup and my experience was that generally speaking the 997 was considerably faster in a straight line than the 996. However I am also aware that some of these GT Cup entrants have 'engine enhancements' shall we say (ie. potentially up to 4.0L) so its hard to get a true guage of the relative performance of the cars in standard form in all honesty.

Have to say kinetic i was very impressed with your lotus... that thing really shifts...u were giving the 996s a good run for there money...!!

Umh, i think the Exige was somewhere in between 996 and 997, certainly faster than the 996's from what I saw, and alot faster than PS1 last season, very impressive there Steve

My old Exige had the legs on a 996 in Normally aspirated trim (219bhp @ the hubs), in SC trim it's more like Mosler territory. They are quick cars if setup correctly. Hope to get an even quicker Lotus into GT Cup this year...
