Daytona Sandown Park D60 Championship

Just a quick post to find out if anyone on PH is competing or thinking of competing in the D60 1 hr kart endurance races at Sandown Park in Esher?

I've been checking their website regularly for new dates of the D40 races, but never heard about D60? Have you got a link?

Whats the opinion on the Daytona Max's? Are they better value than Club 100? I think one detractor is that they only race on daytona circuits, so not much variety!

I happened to notice that the last D60 round wasn't mentioned on their web site so unless you happened to know it was taking place because you're in the winter championship, you wouldn't have a clue. Communication isn't one of Daytona's strong points, they try and take a photograph of the podium after every event but the results, championship points or future rounds aren't on their web site, never mind any photographs.

The D60 is at 09:30 every first Sunday of the month, currently a Winter Championship finishing in February and then a 2009 championship March onwards.

Don't know about Daytona Max, is that not MK only?

the max's are pretty poor.
there junior rotax engines so not that fast for a start!

Ok if the long track, they get up a decent head of steam - short one not so hot.

I live there (not the track, Esher).

Only MK as far as i'm aware! (i race their twice a month!)

They are only pretty poor if you have raced quicker Karts before! If you are quite new to Karting i.e only ever driven the twin engine run of the mill slow stuff, then i'd say that they are not!!

I just raced the Max karts at Daytona's 24 hour Wembley event and i have to say that those Karts were spot on for that track!! 21 teams raced (until team Khan got thrown out for smoking dope!) with the winning team covering 2200 laps. The field was full of driving talent including:

Sam Bird, who i races for Manor Motorsport and test driven for Williams F1

Franck Perera, Ares/Opes Prime Indycar team

Macboys, who race all over the world in Karting Events

OECK who run a Karting championship in 'proper' Max Karts

As well as some National and a World Karting Champion (s)
which, over a single lap, i was quicker than all of the above i must add!! 32.389 set towards the end of my second stint which i think is a nice claim to fame!!

But i'd say the reason that they are down on power is clearly a realiablity thing (although all 21 Karts lasted the whole event!!) + novices would kill themselves in anything quicker.

daytona are part of the tesco clubcard deals too so you can get money off racing if you have a clubcard and apply for the vouchers. i have a £130 voucher for Daytona (for a D90 in the spring) sat at home for the princely sum of £32.50 worth of clubcard vouchers!
