BBC F1 IN HD

Does anybody know if the BBC are going to show F1 this year in HD.
I really think this would help viewing figures.

edit; I imagine people will watch F1 if they want to, and if the opportunity is there then they will do so in HD. I can't see that peopple would not watch it purely because it's not HD. Especially not in any number.

Don't think it's been announced yet though.

I think HD would really bring F1 alive.
So the people that can take it of leave it might be brought back it to the fold.

Unlikely the onboard cameras will be HD, at least for the first part of the season, as the technology isn't quite there yet.
It is quite possible the external cameras will be HD but whether each host broadcaster makes an HD feed available and whether the BBC decides to use it, is another thing.

God no - being able to see how truely out of proportion the 2009 aero packages look would REALLY ruin F1 for me

I think so, coverage is provided by a TV company in the country where the race takes place.So possibly for British GP it will be.

Cameras etc are provided by Bernie. A mate of mine is a camera man for him.

Most cameras are already far in advance of simple HD, it's the transmission that is the weakpoint.

At the very least it would be nice if they could use a few HD trackside cameras and release the 2009 season review in BluRay

As such there isn't a "host" broadcaster in F1. Bernie controls it and has his own team.

As far as I am aware most GP are covered by FOM and FOM use HD cameras.

The reason why we won't have F1 in HD this is because Bernie wants more money from the BBC for HD or the BBC don't want it.

As far as i am aware re Football champions league the only dedicated countrys with HD are UK germany Spain France and Italy so other then these GPs Bernie would have to arrange something

This is all quite ironic. Bernie set up the all-digital, all-singing, multi-camera-angle TV system in the hope that, err, people would pay a premium for it. So he gave up and made the coverage available as part of the "basic package" and dropped the interesting stuff.

Now he's trying the same with HD? FFS - in the current climate, you don't need another reason to seem greedy, do you?!
