I am looking at attending the Italian GP next year, turning it into a bit of a family holiday with a few nights staying up on Lake Como before returning for the annual 3 days of sheer joy which is The Goodwood Revival.
Having been fortunate enough to get to a few events in Europe, Monza is the next of the great old circuits to be ticked off the list. However, I have heard a few bad things about it lately. I understand the crowd is not terribly altruistic and that booking grandstand seats is no guarantee of being able to sit down. Can anyone offer any opinions on the event, from your own experience? As a Ferrari supporter since infancy, I feel this is an essential event to attend, but don’t want to take my Father to something which is just going to stress him out.

I went to Monza last year (08), had no problems with seating (block 6B if I recall correctly). Crowd was very European - not noticeably just Italian.
Everything else seemed normal as far as Grand Prix go - chip vans, merchandise, etc. Getting the train from Milan and then walking was easy, working out which train you need and which platform it leaves from was difficult on the Saturday.
The 'seats' in my block were just concrete steps, so unless you are upgrading to a better class of seat then you might want to think about some sor of padding.

Cheers for the advice, guys. I think it'll be the family thing with Mum, Dad and Missus. Dad and I want to drive down through the Alps but Mother is having none of it so I suspect we'll fly and look to book through Grandstand. I'm delighted to hear less negative talk of the place and event generally. Where are the best viewing spots? I thought the Lesmos might be good, but don't recall seeing any stands there on the telly...

I've just had a look at the map - we were seated in 6B. at the end of the start/finish straight. 6C or 8 would have been slightly better as it would have had a clearer view of the chicaney bit. Good first corner action there - and it rained last year so lots of cars going straight on at the chicane and other stuff.
We had a walk round Lesmo and Biassono on the Saturday - nice view right next to the track, but no stands means the view is limited. Good to see, but I don't know how good it would be for a race. There are fewer big screens up there as well - but there's always Kangaroo TV to solve that.

went last year too. it was good fun apart from the rain, first time in 27 years or so.
was sat on the exit of parabolica in a huge crowd of very friendly and fun italians made the race more fun.
walking from where to bus stops to the circuit then your desired location can be too much for some people, it's a good couple of miles from bus stop to location.
as said about the trains, it's manic on race day.

Did it a few years back and drove down through Italy and over the St Gotthard pass. Tickets were just general Admission and was fine, prefer to explore the track as much as I can rather than sit in the same seat all weekend and pay more.
yeah, was there too - on the main straight, under a tree opposite a screenI drove and parked just outside the circuit - cost me €10 and they provided busses to the park, took 10 mins to get to and from the circuit
well worth going, will be going again this year and hope it doesn't rain again
