BRM Bee Four ERV



On 16th October 2008 Bee Automobiles Ltd announced that the Bee Four electric racing vehicle (ERV) designed by Martin Ogilvie, will participate in the British Speed Hill Climb championships with Graeme Wight jr as the driver. Bee is now delighted to announce that the ERV will race as the BRM Bee Four ERV reviving the BRM brand in its 60th year.

The BRM Bee Four ERV code named the 'Watt 4' is an all electric 4WD vehicle capable of producing 700hp or 520kW. The ERV uses motor technology developed at Oxford University.
Bee is a Campaign Partner of EEMS - the Energy Efficient Motor Sport programme.

The BRM Bee Four ERV will revive the famous BRM brand.

BRM is a previous winner of the British Speed Hill Climb championship, the F1 world Drivers and Constructors championships and a total of 17 F1 Grand Prix's, with Graham Hill and Sir Jackie Stewart as two of the winning drivers.

Participants in the project include Rubery Owen, Oxford University, Oxford Brookes and MIRA Ltd - Motor Industry Research Association.

The BRM Bee Four electric racing car will be driven by Graeme Wight, a former two times Speed Hill Climb Champion, and a man who has set 4 outright records at Doune, Loton Park, Prescott and Shelsley Walsh. Graeme announced his intention to drive the vehicle at the Changing Climate in Motorsport Technology event at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on 4th December which coincided with the start of Wales Rally GB.

Might have to have some flag system to tell people to keep of the track and that something! Is actually on the way up.

No BRMV16 but I bet it is Massively Quick.

Not the way I'll be going with my racing though!!!!!!!!!!!

i cant wait, i think itll be fantastic. maybe he'll add a couple of lolly sticks ticking on the wheel spokes to keep the noise appreciation society happy ;-)

Hope it looks a little better as well, that pic looks like a formula ford with a couple of wings tacked on . Still i bet its very quick and i suppose that traction might not be so much of an issue with 4 driven wheels. If the motors are on each wheel Just guessing here mind , they might have some issues with there being a lot of weight for the suspension to handle . Hope it dosnt catch on though i like a bit of noise with my motorsport.

id assumed that its a motor per wheel but mounted inboard rather than in the wheel. image (albeit a CAD effort) shows thin driveshaft to rear wheel.

it also shows no rear suspension so i don't think you can rely on the accuracy of the image ..

appearance wise i would expect something like a Force or Ben Butterfields old Dallara F3 car with the pods removed...

Sprinting is probably the place an electric car could be competitive.. we looked at a number of options for circuit racing an electric car, but the batt life just isnt there... top gear got what 10 mins of lap time out of the elise based thing with its full compliment of batts!!!
