BRITCAR 24 hr / 6 Hr Race - 1st - 4th Oct 2009 !!!!!!

Dear all,
We can confirm that the Britcar 24 Hr has temporary been reduced to a 6 hr race for 2009 because of the economic climate the country is in at the moment. We are not saying the 24 hr race has gone forever !!!!. We are planning to bring it back in 2010 all depending if the UK economic sitaution has improved.
The weekend of the 1st - 4th October will still have the say flare and support from spectators, as our Spectators Club is growing by the day and the interest from public at the Autosport Show was overwhelming.
The 6 Hr weekend will have a one hour day Qualifing and a two hour night Qualifing on the Friday 2nd October and the main race will start from 16.00 and finish at 22.00 with a big party planned after to celebrate overall and class winners.
Due to the reduction in length we can now fuel cars in the pit lane not from the old assembly area like previous years but this will mean that all cars will need Dry Break Fuel Systems. (Contact us in the office for further details)
Britcar Ltd are still planning family entertainment and sideshows etc for the weekend. We also have numerous support races to entertain the crowds.

Quick question, Claire. Does the race itself take place on Saturday 3rd or Sunday 4th?Ah, proper refuelling at last. Will we be allowed a proper 100 litre refill from our rigs or will the 50 litre dump churn method be employed?
From our point of view it would be better if the race started at 10am and ran for 12 hours instead. Is this a possibility? It doesn't add much to the event costs, but it does allow teams to bring in more drivers.

Too right. I just cant get the figures to stack up for a 6hour... TBH the fixed costs for the 6 aint much less than the 24.. but the possible income from seats isnt there.. as you say a 12 hour similar costs but possibly double the drivers... also easier to sell 1 slot from a 12 than 1 from a 6Graham said:

As for a 12 hour, again we'd need to build a petrol station rather than allowing you to refuel in the pits, as you are probably aware from previous posts/discussions, this is one of our biggest bills for the weekend. Plus we would have less support races which means we'd need to recoup their track time out of the Britcar entry fees which means it would all end up costing as much, if not more than the 24hr.
We discussed all the options here at Britcar HQ and ran through our options with the MSA and Silverstone and we believe this is the best compromise.

Hello David, I would like to know how you can justify an entry fee of £3620+VAT for six hours; when the 24 Hour was £3750. The EERC have often used the £/min ratio in justifying entry fees over other series in the past but this figure is incredibly expensive relative to any other race or series. Especially when you consider the club will enjoy the luxury of being able to sell a full program of support races on the GP circuit to other championships on the Sunday which has not been the case with the 24 Hour Race.
The whole concept of the 6 hour race was a "credit crunch" beating low cost event for the teams, but this notion clearly has not been applied to entry fees. This will make it very hard for teams to committ when the EERC ask as no one will cough up over 4 grand early unless they have the luxury of multiple funded drivers having already paid up......
