Getting to and staying at Silverstone

Me and my girlfriend are heading to Silverstone this year for the Grand Prix.

We live near Glasgow and were looking for recommendations on how to get there and where to stay.
Looking to head down on the friday (we have 3 day tickets) and possibly head back the monday morning.
Had a quick look and it seems most hotels are fully booked.

Any advice greatly appreciated,

If you don't mind camping whittlebury golf club campsite is excellent, 5 mins walk from the curcuit too.

My mum lives about 10 miles away and would probably do a great B&B deal as a one off. No good unless you'd enjoy chilling out by the pool - or if it's a bit chilly, in the hot tub...

Haven't stayed there for the GP, but for other meetings it's great fun. A good place to stay. We'll be there for the Classic again.

The Premiere Inn at The Crossroads Inn in Weedon Northants may well be worth a try as will the Holiday Inn Express in Flore. I know both well from experience and would say drop both a line.

Both are about 20 mins by car from the circuit but offer good value and easy access to major roads, ie the M1 and A43.

Camp at the circuit! Me and my bro might be doing this this year and I only live in Milton Keynes! Imagine late night BBQs with hundreds of other fans getting drunk... Awesome.

I camped there for the LMES and it was great just wandering over to the track in the morning after brekky. Although I got the impression that for the F1 the camping is extremely busy so you might need to get in early.

Anyone ever stay local to the circuit and cycle to and from to beat the traffic?

Circuit camping across the road from the track main entrance looks good. Looks like you get a bit of room and there was a central shopping area, where you could buy most stuff you needed. I had to photograph it this year, did get a free beer off some Scottish chaps!

I live in Milton Keynes and go most years. Most of the good hotels / B&B's are booked up well in advance by the racing teams.

Getting married the weekend before the GP this year and getting a venue & accomodation has been a nightmare!!!!!!

Most of the big chains I.e Holiday Inn, Travel Lodge etc should still have rooms.

Weather dependant, picthing a tent so to speak will be the best bet.

Whittlebury without a doubt. I couldn't fault any part of it there. Even the drivers stay in the hotel on site. Everyone is friendly there, me and my friend were invited for a barbeque the first night there. The walk to the circuit is minutes away.

I have a feeling Whittlebury may already be booked up. A friend tried to book a few weeks back.

Worth a try anyway but don't get too excited. (and my pitch isn't for sale!!)

OH and I stayed at the saracens head in towcester for the superbikes, not sure what the traffic would be like but the place was nice enough, about a 5-10 min drive away on a good day.

I met fernando alonso there last year,took a piccy and got his autograph,but we were only lucky enough to get fernando's,shame lewis was'nt staying there too.

Never updated this:

We got very cheap flights (about £80 return each if i remember), a nice hotel 20mins drive from the track (we're hiring a car).
