Very inexpensive ECU for a Challenge car, didnt they used to be over £500! a really good buy for one of you Tuscan race boys

Are race ECU's hard to come by?

They are different to the road car ecu, so probably worth having one as a spare... If your ecu does die, and you cant get one your probably looking at upwards of a grand to have something like an emerald fitted ( although that would allow easier mapping) more if you go motec or similar

hi mike if you are going to run the 4.7 a race ecu is not what you want as you will need to re map the engine and you cannot do that with the race one

^^^ indeed (though TVR power / John Reid might be able to offer some remapping capability) .. but when I looked into it for Howard Brian I chatted to the guys at MBE and they told me it was effectively locked down with checksum hurdles. I managed to find a fuel map and an ignition map, but changes to the maps didn't alter the running of the car at all, so either the ecu knows the changes have happened and doesn't implement them or the maps I found weren't at addresses being read by the ecu anyway, the race ecu is incredibly basic so there's lots of free address space in teh chip for lots of fuel maps and lots of ignition maps, it's finding the ones being used that's the probem . Either way up, if you're running anything other than std challenge spec in your engine you could do with a fully mappable aftermarket ECU on your car, which also neatly leaves those remaining std challenge ECUs to be used by owners running cars still in challenge spec or to buy as a spare as noted above
