ING Pulling out of Renault Sponsorship

After this year ING aren't sponsoring Renault any more, not at all suprising really:

So this means Renault will go to a different colour scheme next year, here's hoping the old yellow/blue from 02-06 comes back.

Reports in Germany asking whether Renault will be in F1 at all next year now that it's getting very difficult to get sponsors/jutify an F1 team.

That the sponsorship is lost is not good news. The only 'good' thing about it is we will be losing one of the most god awful colour schemes ever devised.

Yep, the paintjob did look awful, but it's going to be hard for Renault to get sponsorship in the current climate which could leave Alonso heading to Force India in 2010 (which would be hilarious to watch) as a stop gap until Kimi or Felipe give up/get fired.

I was talking about the Renault team based in the UK. Not ING who I think are dutch? I fear the reason there will not be 2 ugly cars is because there may be 2 big empty garages. Not good for the sport. Certainly not good for the Reanult team workers who might have to compete with the Honda team workers for jobs....

I'd sooner have Ugly cars than no cars.

Alonso is off to Ferrari next year from all accounts. Could be the end of the road for Renault F1?

Would that be Toyota or BMW? Or perhaps one of the independent teams, Williams perhaps, FiF1, RBR/STR. There was even talk of Mercedes pulling the plug on supplying McLaren engines.

No where near as bad as the '98-'99 winfield williams cars. Or the '99 "zip" BAR-supertech cars.

i reckon toyota are out if they don't win a race. BMW will win a couple, and are in for the longer term i'd say

Toyota will stay, BMW and M-B will stay, Renault will stay as will Ferrari. Williams will stay RBR and TR will stay....and Force India will stay.

The ING Bank issue is simple....they spent too much money making a massive media statement, but in hindsight should have slowly crept up on the scene, not spent £25 million a year on race sponsorship and a whole heap more on hospitality, video production, merchandise and sponsoring a team.

The board got carried away but numbers, but the sponsorship platform did not work, neither did the underlying message.
