Who is the mystery buyer - Virgin or Coco Cola maybe?
Discussion
Just read this from Autosport re Honda buyout and rescue bid...
......However, a report in The Daily Telegraph on Monday quoted a Honda source as saying that a bid from an unnamed third party had emerged that could take the team forward. The report quoted the source as saying the company behind this mystery bid was: "reputable, able to bring long-term financial stability, with a brand image known throughout the world. Formula One would do well to have them on board.".....
Both Virgin and Coke have stayed away due to tobacco sponsorship - but could they see a way in now that F1 has started to clean up it's act?
Interesting...

I can't see it. Not while the red team persist with the Marlboro millions, despite every other team getting off the band wagon.
You'd think that, being the most evocative and famous F1 name of all, Ferrari wouldn't have trouble replacing their title sponsor wouldn't you? Guess not.
Maybe Santander's money will replace Marlboro's but even then I can't then see any brands like Coke or Virgin joining in. F1 screams technology and politics, not fun and 'the real thing'

McDonalds?
Thats what I was thinking, theyve sponsored newman haas in the indy cars for long enough afterall."Now he's set off again and pulling into his pit box"
"Looks as if they're putting some kind of brown bag into the cockpit?"
"OH NO! DISASTER! THEY'VE FORGOTTEN THE KETCHUP!"

NO FMCG ( Food companies) have any real interest in F1. Coke is Soccer through and through. Proctor & Gamble don't really need or do sponsorship, no to Philips. Just look at the US economy and sponsorship to see ho wwell they do out of NFL, NHL, NASCAR, Baseball etc.
Few companies today have global advertising budgets, they are now broken down into regions, and the US consumer today does not need, view or understand F1. Until they have races in the US and US drivers and US engines the interest will remain low.
There are a vast number of IT and / or Telco's who would do very well out of F1. Toshiba, Intel, AMD ( unlikely but already involved) a huge array of Korean organisations Samsung, Hyundai, Kia etc to name a few. Shipping maybe, one or two industrial companies possibly but look to technology / web / mobile telco's.
Unlikely to be Chinese, their economy is not good and a long term F1 race is unlikely.
Not sure about Abu Dhabi money, Dubai, Saudi ( possible ), Bahrain etc.
A Brazilian / Mexican bid is not out of the question as they have decent funds and no real credit crunch.
India and a pharmacutical billionaire could be one buyer, Mumbai is awash with cash and India is probably going to be the worlds biggest economy in five years time. Look east for the next team and major sponsors.
