You need a transponder not a lap timer...
the transponder has a coded signal which flashes up on the timekeepers screen when you pass the timing loop. This helps them log your laps and lap times...
BRSCC will spec transponder but i expect it will be this one
http://www.tsl-timing.com/?loc=transponders
a Lap timer is something you have in the car that picks up from either the track beacon or your own beacon so you can see live lap times every lap... very useful in qualifying, and handy in the race or keeping track of the number of laps you've done...which can be surprisingly hard !!!

quite handy for connecting to the dash2 as well if you haven't already got instruments...
Im putting a dash 2 and a dl1 in my new toy :-)
Yes I've got both also, plus the Emerald interface so you can view any of the ECU inputs also, so you don't need to double up on cables or sensor's.Im putting a dash 2 and a dl1 in my new toy :-)
handy for engine diag. also.

What can you log on the emerald ecu interace, I've been thinking of that.. how does it all plug together dl1, ecu and dash ?
Well apart from std stuff like air, water and Oil temp and pressures if you have the sensors, plus and lambada settings.I think you can log Ign advance, and injector timing's AFAICR anything the ECU can do you can log.
I'll bring the manual in tomorrow and post up a full list.
you have a small box with 2 leads with 9 pin (serial rs232 conectors) one plugs onto the Emerald, and the other to the PC input of the DL1 plus you get a fly lead to the Dash2.
If you have all 3 it's not much for the link, I think it's about £125. but silly not too if you have all 3.
Esp as the Dash2 you have 5 screen plus can program alarm conditions, so you only see stuff if there is a problem.

Have you got yours all wired up now then Leigh ?
Did you manage to get any testing done over the winter on the motor aslooking foward to come and watch / help out when I can
Yes and no, and No lolDid you manage to get any testing done over the winter on the motor aslooking foward to come and watch / help out when I can

Just been too cold, and had lots of other stuff to sot. Did get it wired-up but not working correctly, 2st thing on the list to do, after sorting the HT leads. going to get stuck in this W/E/
Be cool to have to tag along, you was a big help at Brans.

Full list is.1. RPM @ 25RPM steps
2. Throttle Position @ 0.1%
3. Manifold / Boost Pressure @ 0.1kPa
4. Ambient Air Pressure @ 0.1kPa
5. Ignition Advance @ 0.1 Deg BTDC
6. Air Fuel Ratio Lambda1 @ 0.01 Lambda
7. Air Fuel Ratio Lambda2 @ 0.01 Lambda
8. Battery Voltage @0.01v
9. Pri Inj Time @ us (micro second 10-6)
10. 2nd Inj Time @ us (micro second 10-6)
11. Coil On Time @ us (micro second 10-6)
12. Air Temp @ 0.1 oC
13. Coolant Temp @ 0.1 oC
14. Aux Temp @ 0.1 oC
15. Ehaust Gas Temp @ 0.1 oC
Oh and now they dropped the price to £80

Does it need to be from TSL or will an AMB work? There's a couple on ebay.http://www.tsl-timing.com/?loc=transponders
The old Orange transponders are no longer supported and not recognised by the timekeepers - so don't be tempted by a cheap one on E bay - it would be a complete waste of money.
The newer transponders are red and by AMB.
This was discussed ad naseum on 10 tenths:

When was the last time the car ran with the transponder. if it was in the last two years it will be ok.
the DL1 is for p/w logging in class B
the transponder is separate for circuit timing and all classes need one in any series..
G
worst case is time keeper will not record a time for you. you should get atleast one warning before they let you race but dont classify you. you can usually hire one at the circuit if needed too

Ivor - you will definitely need the new transponder. I understood that the high intensity light thing had been waived, but I admit I haven't checked the blue book again this year...(You still need fog light type rain lights, but I thought the FIA approved LED rain light requirement was no longer there?)
The fia rain light was binned and I've not heard that its come back.. They tried to bring it in saying that marshals couldnt see the rain lights.... then the marshals said erm actually we can, but we do have some difficulty with the high intensity led lights FFS...
I cant say I've ever had a problem not seeing a rain light, and we've had some rain !!!! Not being able to stop after seeing the rain light maybe
The one reg change that might catch a few people out this year is that the shoulder harness straps mush not share an eyelet on the roll cage.. they must each have their own eyelet bolt...
I know I need to mod the fitting on my tuscan for this as it only has one, and I expect there maybe a few more out there..
The only lifed ( for msa purposes) things on the car will be
Harness
Fire extinguisher
Race Suit ( its the fia standard that runs out not the age of the suit) 1986 standard is either out of scope in 09 or 10 I must check as mine is 86 so I might need to get a new one
You also need
Current Transponder ( talk to tsl to be 100% sure of what you've got)
DL1 if Class B
some front lights ( can be spots)
brake lights
rear lights, either 1 central or 2 with 1 either side.
One thing I would do is get hold of an airline and blow out the fire extinguisher lines to make sure they are clear ( or fit new lines) mine had got a couple of years of grp filings and dust in them... as soon as the fire extinguisher went off the nozzles blocked !!
another one the scruits like to check is the fire ex pull cable... they often jam over the winter, so disconnect the cable and run some wd40 down it to make sure its free.
just a few pointers to help you on the way :-)
Im usually on the end of a phone line if you have any other questions
Cheers

one other point,
Check you cut-out cuts the car completely. I fitted a new one, but got back current from the alternator, even though the earth resister was fitted. It was a double pole, but I need to connect the ignition circuit, thought I would not need to as it should have cut the power and sent the alternator down to earth, but it seem to still let some thought, don't know how just did. so make sure it work.
Oh good idea on the fire extinguisher hose, as I replaced some, but the engine bay one is still Kev's old one.
oh and make sure the battery terminals are not exposed.
