Why have they bothered?
I am under the impression (possibly mistankenly) that an F1 team that is purely an F1 team, isnt a profit making enterprise.
Without sponsors money, how do you get a return? Can sponsors money be used as a return on investment or something? Is every drop of sponsors money spent on operations/the team?
Anyone have any insight into this?

Good to see not everyone in the world is so pessimistic about the global economy!
Cannot see Button getting a chance to climb back from the mid-field from now on though...

If they own the team privately, and have a top notch marketing division, they can attract major sponsorship which will give the sponsors a very good return. This will boost the value of the team, which they can sell at some point in the future for a major profit. Conversely, if they get no sponsors it will all go tits up.
High risk, but that's the chance you take.
