Having a browse of old school F1 vids on Youtube today, came across a video where someone made a very poor song using lots of Murray Walker quotes. But look at around 56 seconds in, that is the reason why titanium skid blocks need to be back on F1 cars:

Sure, it's very inefficient, will slow the cars down and is potentially dangerous, but it sure looks cool

out of interest why would it slow the cars down and be dangerous? I believe they currently have a wooden plank underneath wobble

It slows the car down because obviously when it rubs on the ground this causes friction which as I'm sure you know causes things to slow down (consider dry sex; much more difficult isn't it? sorry to lower the tone but practically everyone will understand this), and it could be dangerous because if sparks are everywhere all it takes is one little bit of leaking fuel and you have a fire.

There would be less friction from a Ti block than from a wooden plank. If the cars are built properly there won't be any leaking fuel anyway.

Fair enough, doesn't matter really though as it looks so cool...

Well that was going to be my point but you beat me to it cool It wasn't meant as a daft question but it got a daft answer... DPBird90 didn't you know that the Ti plates were replaced with wooden ones because I'm sure you'll understand wood causes more friction than titanium? Now... imagine sliding down a rough wooden playground slide, you'd get splinters in your bum, now imagine a nice smooth piece of titanium sliding on your backside, you'd whizz down nice and quick with no spinters, see... Sorry to bring it to playground level but everyone will understand that tongue out
