FIA to scrap rule changes
Discussion
Could be an option with the Moto GP rules, but 3 things:
1. As Niki Lauda (?) said "Tell me the rules and I will race to them / acordingly" (can't remember the exact quote but you get my drift"
2. Last season was a stormer, as were previous ones so I personally do not think we are so far away from a good system.
Soooo do we need to change anything? I would like to see more incentive to make people fight to overtake, but not just for 1st place, but also down to sixth. Having thought about this over my morning coffee for about 1 min I would suggest making the incentive higher e.g the 30, 20, 14, 9, 6, 4, so 2 first places is like 3 seconds and so on (no exact maths solution.) You can even expand it to 7th place with 1st place with 45, 30 etc.

I don't think you need incentives for most drivers, you just need three things: circuits and cars designed to allow the opportunity. I accept that some drivers feel they honour the sport just by their presence - I remember Berger justifying his taking out of a car that tried to overtake him on the last lap by saying it was only 9th place - but most will, if the opporunity is there, go for it.Last year's Spa FiAsco didn't help of course. I always think that if there is any doubt any decision should favour the car passing. I know there have been a lot os suggestions that the decision wasn't made on the grounds of fair play, but in any case, LH went for it and should have been supported.
I think the WDC is a bit of a make-believe. It proves nothing other than the driver socred more points. It does make the end of the season more interesting and I have to say I found the final race of 2008 immensly exciting - I'm a big McLaren fan. But the thin we should be looking for is more exciting idividual races. And for that we need more overtaking.
And the final thing you need for overtaking is a sensible way of adjudicating appeals and such. Last season was dreadful. Or to put it another way, the last thing you need is the bloke who ran the stewards last season.
A simple rule demanding that the airflow at the rear of a GP car should reach certain levels of smoothness would have two benefits. It would probably reduce downforce and then would allow following cars to get a tow.
The real worry about this debacle is that it is a defeat, a massive and very plublic slap in the face, for Mosley. Whilst we can all enjoy it we must remember that whenever this has happened in the past he's gone into attack mode and the sport has suffered.

Yes and no. My biggest issue is when a driver decides not to overtake due to the "loss of points risk" either his or the team's decision. e.g. I can't risk my 8 points for second. I would like change that element. All other points andygo said:
What are the FIA on?
From the Autosport website the FIA said that they were under the impression the teams wanted it...
I for one really believe him. Honestly really, really believe him. I mean, if he didn't then he would have to be utterly inept. After all I can't accept that Mosley would take such a drastic step just a few days before th start of the season without reading his own rules. Surely that would show him up as a complete and utter waste of space. Further, I know that everyone on here knew that the teams didn't want it but people like Mosley have important basements to attend and then there's all that plaster to stick in places that it's difficult to get to, so he has to depend on advisers and let's face it, the one who is boss of the stewards doesn't seem to know much about motor racing so it's understandable. From the Autosport website the FIA said that they were under the impression the teams wanted it...
No, I have to say that I really, I mean really really, with all my heart, believe that Mosley didn't know that the teams didn't want such a rubbish idea and that it was all, I mean totally, someone else's fault. To believe anything else would mean that you thought there was an utter idiot in charge of the FiA.
