Chaps,
Yesterday before qualifying during an interview on BBC1, the Ferrari team priciple mentioned the teams he thought they were going to be fighting with over the season. He listed Red Bull, Toyota etc, but he specifically said "NOT Brawn GP". Was this mis-placed confidence? I mean, the Brawn is still a quicker car than the Ferrari at the moment. Did he mean that he expects the Brawn to get relatively slower as the season goes by due to their smaller budget?

Perhaps he means that they won't be able to catch up with BGP?

From my understanding he just meant that the Brawn's were just too far ahead of everyone else to warrant them as immediate competition

If they keep making the same sort of decisions they made this weekend, they won't be racing anyone. Can't believe such an experienced outfit could make such fundamental and basic errors.

A very different looking season with Ferrari and Mclaren as backmarkers.

Mindboggling that they put full wets on Kimi's car at that early time.

Also wondering how long Heikki is going to keep that seat, but I guess they have other things to think about.

As I said on the Malaysian GP thread, surely Ferrari's mantra now (as it should have been last year)has got to be "What would Ross do?" wink

Maybe he said this because he knows the FIA are going to ban the defuser.

Not so sure on MC being backmarkers,i suspect by the time the euro season starts MC will be at the sharp end.Remember Brawn is a customer of Merc so there is no way they will have a better engine so once downforce issues are sorted i expect they will at the pionty end

the dancing donkeys atm are just that, low power in the engine.Today in a straight line when Kimi preesed for kers he just held station. The aero package doesn't seem any better either, ansd tactics ae woefull.
But thy will be at the sharp end soon as Bernie and Spanky dont want them to fail cos it will cost them millions

Thanks lads. I'm not sure what he meant. I still think he could have been discounting Brawn GP's chances over the entire season, despite their great early form. Perhaps we'll never know.

Certainly shows how Brawn is "the" man who can build a team! When did Ferrari's fortunes? What was Brawn's role there at the time?

And I think I maybe eating my own words for dissing Jenson, because despite previously agreeing that he is a good fast / smooth driver who just needed a good car under him; until now I have never felt he would be a WDC - but seeing him in BGP1 he now has a real chance. I firmly believe that all of the guys at Brackley have complete trust and faith in what they can now deliver with Brawn.

Wonder where Schuie would have been without him?

F1 survived for many years without Ferrari being competitive, they will get no more help than anyone else.

Too much money involved for the donkeys to be allowed to fail now

What he clearly meant is that they cannot catch the Brawn. When NR and JT went for fuel JB improved his laptimes by 2 secs a lap, to pit and come out half a straight ahead of them, that is a serious amount of speed held in reserve -

JB didnt improve his laptime at all, it was down the other pitting for fuel and tyres. There fore a heavier fuel load - slower car. But what it shows is that JB and the car are softer on the tyres and can be able to keep up the same consistent pace on the older used tyres towards the end of a stint.

Have to admit I thought Button had kissed goodbye to any chance of being in a decent car and challenging for WDC years ago. I just hope Brawn can keep this up...
