Grid Penalties - what if...

Baricello, with a 5 place penalty, finishes qualifying in 6th place, and Vettel, with a 10 place penalty, finishes qualifying in 1st place, for example. Not having looked to closely at the rules regarding penalties, it appears both would start from 11th on the grid.

I think the penaltys are applied in the order they are handed out.

So if Vetel was given the penalty first then he takes his 10 place drop and he is then moved up to 10th by Barichello

If both penaltys were awarded at the same time then I dont know what would happen, probably a delayed race whyle the teams pay some FIA laywers a few million to decide

you're right - it's the order the penalties are given. If they are, for instance for engine/gearbox changes, it would be the order they are lodged with the FIA. so if it is from in race events I imagine it would be the order the stewards determine them.
