Hello all
As an avid fan of GT racing in the UK i cant help but notice the decline of our premier series, along with the rise of Britcar and its growing grids.
My idea while i was idly watching telly last night is a merger.
Why not combine the two series, then we would have GT3 stuff from BritGT along with the more GT2 machinery of the Moslers, 997GT3RSR's from Britcar. Rounds would be two hours long, with the customary silverstone endurance. I see no reason why this would not lead to larger grids and thus perhaps lower entry fees?
now i understand all the hard work that has gone into making Britcar what it is today, and i believe that the series is run very well. So why not call the amalgamation "Britcar British GT" or the like and the Britcar staff could run the series. While their is reasnable range of machinery in BGT, Britcar fields are always great to look at and when the races are longer that is always a good thing.
Basically it just seems odd to me that we have two series, for the same cars, with similar formats, one struggling for grids, while the other im sure would welcome an extra 15-20 cars and the chance to run with the F3 package.
Any thoughts on this purely hypothetical idea are welcome, especially those from he who runs Britcar smile

The key issue (besides commercial rights) is the license status. Britcar is club racing. To allow for that market you have allow anyone who has a race license regardless of experience. National B is acceptable in Britcar where as in British GT with FIA homolgated cars an International C is the minimum criteria and that cannot be changed in Motorsport rules. Britcar fights very hard to keep it "club racing" and therefore National B otherwise it would loose half its field and go head on with British GT which would be stupid for both parties.

In essence you can never have driven on a race circuit before doing your ARDS test and be racing a 500bhp or whatever Mosler in Britcar the day your license is signed off. You can't do that in British GT.

Another issue is they are not the same car types by any stretch, yes they can cross over BUT because Britcar is not using FIA homologated cars you can do pretty much anthying you can afford in Britcar within the power to weight rules. In British GT your car has to in theory at least comply with FIA homolgations for the car which makes the whole thing allot more expensive because EVERY part is specifically documented in type and use by one source so no typical off the shelf items.

Thanks for clearing that up Simon i was unaware of the licensing issues.
Regarding the classes of car, perhaps the class structures could be altered to along the lines of
Class 1: Anything above GT3.
Class 2: FIA GT3 spec
Class 3: GT3C - Porsche/Ferrari cup cars
Class 4: GT4 etc.

But now wit your point about the licensing issues i do see how my idea could be a bit difficult, if not impossible, to implement!

I firmly believe that Britcar should be National A....

As I pointed to JT on this very subject over the winter, the sheer fact of dividing classes using the FIA Homolgated GT performance structure (GT2, GT3 etc) gives weight to the MSA's request for a higher license requirement. So your right it is impossible to impliment.
