Any recommendations

Going to need new shells and rings etc. do CRE do parts.

As need to re-build the race engine at some point.
Have to get it stripped 1st and checked over, as not sure if the lifter holes are ok, or if not if they can be reapired, also need new camshaft bearings.

Thanks
Leigh

Shells can be sourced from any of the motor factors. I like ACL, top quality, none of this cheap Clevite stuff smile Lifter bores don't usually give any trouble but can be copper sleeved. I've never had to do it though. If you're changing rings why not get a file fit ring pack and tighten up the gaps to proper specs? Stock rings have massive gaps, often well out of spec. You'll need a hone as well.

I'll get a hone done (if needed its only been run for an hour) when they change the Camshaft Bearing's who the best people to get a ring pack from.

^ I like Total Seals, Gapless and file fits, Dave at Performance Unlimited in York is the UK agent. He'll ask you for bore size, ring thicknesses and the depth of the grooves/rings. That said, he's supplied for Rovers before now. You will need a rehone to bed the new rings in.

What did you replace them with.

Most of the engines I've seen they have not been too bad, mine needs doing as the the camshaft lobes came off and destroyed the bearings

Knew that was coming. wink

Don't think a S1 Chassis would be able to cope, without spending a fortune. plus already gone over budget. and money would be better spent testing and learning the tracks.

Sorry wink

If you can stretch to having a rebuild, try McCarthy MotorSport, near you Roy has a mental 4.something Crossplane crank version(!) on Quad Downdraughts MGBV8, he is the man for this stuff near you, prepped the cars for his sons to come 1st and 6th (I think) in Ginetta G20's last years.

Well was going to rebuild myself, just want to source good Q components, plus don't want to buy from previous supplier for obvious reasons. plus there a lot of contradictions, plus there's not a lot of info for the THOR engine. don't even know anyone else running the THOR front end with a front timing wheel.

the Temp engine is running very well, so the set-up is fine, but I don't know the mileage, its maybe 100K + plus its a 3.9 small journal engine non cross-bolted, converted to THOR front end. so I want to re-build my 4.0 X-bolted top-hatted balanced Engine.

Need to find out how much damage has been done 1st. I know the Camshaft Bearing's and rockers are fooked. but due to limited time, was not worth spending any more time, and just get the test engine upto spec. so I could use the car.

Also Leven are just round the corner but they just ship there stuff to V8D.

THOR - what is this - is itr performance related?

Get some 500 heads, forged pistons, shot peen the rods, increase the CR, full race cam, and the normal stuff to rebuild.##

Can you ditch the st ECU (well if you can call it that), go Emeral or similar?

Jon, Thor is the later 4.0/4.6 version of the engine with the interesting but horrible plenum. Dual plenum but with a single throttle.

Well they actually did 2 version of the THOR engine,
One with the Standard Plenum and also with the banana one.

The main difference on the THOR engine is the very short front end, but it has a longer crank. also the sump feed comes direct from the front cover, and has a different sump. (Yet again 2 Versions Steel and Ali)

They Also had a Different style ECU with knock sensors.

Hi J,

What part of budget did you not understand. Also I am running Emerald, as pointed out I'm the only person I know using a Emerald on this type of front end engine.

Unless you or somone else wants to sponsor me, I'm going to be on a very tight budget, All ready spent about 4K more than I wanted too. Engine cost me over 3K but is currently a box of scrap, going to see what's salvageable the weekend. also pointless spending fortune on a new engine if then I can't afford to race. I need to rebuild it as cheap as posible, but without cutting corners, but spending 800+ on pistons is just out of the question.
