The Button vs. Hamilton triathlon challenge!!?

So, when challenged to a race last year, Hamilton Snr said Lewis couldn't take part as he was fighting for a world championship. It certainly doesn't seem to put Jenson off...

So, does this mean now that Lewis isn't doing so well he'll be allowed to take part? Me thinks not, but if I were Jenson I'd be renewing that bet laid down last year...

Excellent, but I hope all his fans don't turn up on the reported date of 1st August, because the race he's in takes place on the 2nd.

I just hope Button has the title wrapped up before August. It would be a cruel, cruel way to miss out on possibly his only crack at a WC if he came off his bike...

Shame Hamilton can't stand up to his team and do this same race. Would be good to see them race against each other off the track as well as on it.

I cant believe that after what happened to Webber in a charity cycle that some posters are still acting as if they dont understand Mclarens decision on not letting Lewis take part.

Indeed - I was hit by a car in a tri last week; I'm still licking my wounds

I'm more surprised that Button is allowed to do any tris this year, in a similar vein to Hamilton's restriction. OK last year he had no real challenges or limelight, but it's amazing that he has time to do it this year, what with the small matter of leading the WDC.

I tell you now, if he hurts himself on this triathlon and fails to win the championship, i shall slate him for ever more. I'm on record as slating him already, because he's always struck me as someone who doesn't *want* the championship enough, which is why he's achieved little in 9 years or however long it is.

When he retires he'll be able to do anything he wants. I can't see why he wants to focus on anything other than the championship for this year.

I get the feeling you'll slate Button no matter what he does, WDC or not.
I clearly don't know him as well as you, but finishing 3rd in the WDC behind the two dominant Ferraris in a BAR seems a respectable performance to me.

Its what everybody clings to, isn't it? One third place in about 9 years. He's a much better driver than that, in fact i think he's a terrific natural ability, but i just question his championship desire/life/toys balance.

At Brackley there is a factory full of guys, (now diminished after redundancies of course) all working their hearts out to secure this championship, placing it before their own family/life balance, but jenson still wants to go and play triathlons as well. This is his year of years, and he'll have decades afterwards to do as many triathlons as he wants.
