Chaps,

Looks like I'm off to check out some full-house live drag racing for the first time this weekend. Is anybody else off on Monday? Can anyone offer guidance on grandstands? Is it necessary at Santa Pod? Don't want my girlfriend unhappy as she can't see anything! Need to book some tickets this evening. Really excited to suss out a new form of motorsport to me.

Grandstand on one side or grass banking on the other, that's pretty much your lot!

Well I might opt for grandstands just to be considerate to Sooze. She's so excited about it, bless her.

Take earplugs and ear defenders. If there are top fuel cars running you'll need them (ideally both at the same time).

I went to a top fuel event in my younger days...not wanting to show weakness amongst 'the lads' we all said we don't need ear plugs or even to put our fingers in our ears...
That lasted all of 1 second when we all developed an automatic reaction of covering our ears, must have been a funny site for any 'seasoned' watchers

Also, if a jet car there, they are not any quieter than the top fuels (as we also discovered)

The ground shake and the blur of your own vision is what shocked us! I must head back again some day

I've seen top fuel cars running a few times and they never cease to amaze me with the sheer violence of the noise !!!

And I thought they'd be quieter as they came past at 300mph, so when I was standing down near the finish line one time I thought I'd leave my earplugs out.

I was mistaken. They're *not* quieter. And my ears were ringing for ages afterwards !!!
